The Firehouse Center for the Arts has been a cornerstone of our cultural community for over 34 years, earning a reputation for excellence in theatre and arts programming. At a time when arts funding is being cut from schools across the region, the need for accessible, high-quality theatre education outside the classroom has never been more urgent — and we are proud to meet that need. Our education program continues with access to classes for members of our community 55+. These classes focus on the fun and learning that comes with the performing arts and are accessible to all skill levels. In a community where many may not otherwise have access to arts education, the Firehouse serves as both a sanctuary and a springboard — nurturing talent, sparking imagination, and building lifelong connections. This program isn’t just important — it’s essential.

Second Act Readers Theater

The Firehouse’s arts education program, Second Act Readers’ Theater, is show biz without the stress!  Individuals perform while comfortably seated and there is no memorization required. We welcome individuals 55 and older, regardless of experience, to participate in the magic of theater.

Together, we explore a script in detail, develop a character, focus on the use of voice and gestures, and finally offer a public performance at the Firehouse! Special invitations to the Public Performance are issued to senior centers and assisted living centers throughout the area.
