SUMMARY:People Like That
DESCRIPTION:The Actors Studio of Newburyport presents… \nPeople Like that\nAdults | $30 \nSenior | $25 \nStudents | $20 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nPeople Like That — a story about love\, identity\, and the courage to live authentically. Through the journey of two young women discovering who they are and who they love\, the musical explores what it means to be seen\, understood\, and accepted. While it is their story\, it is also all of ours. Each of us has judged or been judged\, misunderstood\, or made to feel like “people like that” at some point in our lives. In a time when many feel divided\, theatre remains one place where hearts open and conversations begin. Stories like this matter. Visibility matters. Love matters. People Like That features beautiful music\, much good humor\, and easily relatable characters. \n

SUMMARY:Amanda Pascali
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nAmanda Pascali\nTickets starting at $27 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nPascali’s work songs\, protest numbers\, lullabies and ballads about everyday struggle are resonating with a diverse global audience. With one viral video after another\, she has garnered over 130k followers on Instagram. Her fans appreciate her captivating voice\, poeticism and preternatural ability to find old songs that reverberate across countries and centuries. The accolades have followed: Fulbright Scholar\, Artist-in-Residence at the Library of Congress\, World Expo performer in Osaka\, official showcase artist at Folk Alliance International\, and awards from the Calandra Institute\, Mid-America Arts Alliance\, Kerrville Folk Festival\, and Houston Arts Alliance. But perhaps more meaningfully\, Pascali proves that old songs can be endlessly reshaped for new generations. \n  \n                                                            \n \n  \n \nAmanda Pascali embodies the complexity of modern identity. Born to a mother from Cairo who grew up in France and an Italian father raised in Romania\, she’s a mixed-race\, bilingual Gen Z troubadour perpetually caught between worlds. Quoting poet Ijeoma Umebinyuo\, she says\, “I’m often ‘too foreign for here\, too foreign for home\, and never enough for both.’” Rather than lamenting this displacement\, Pascali has transformed it into her artistic superpower. In her bright red teenage bedroom\, she started writing songs about her life and family\, later singing them at coffeehouses and motorcycle bars. Her curiosity eventually led her to Palermo on a Fulbright fellowship\, where she spent two years developing To Sing and Recount (Canta e Cunta) — a digital storytelling project that translates and revitalizes Southern Italian folk songs\, revealing their startling relevance to contemporary social issues worldwide. \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Comedy Night featuring Lenny Clarke
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nComedy Night feat. Lenny Clarke\nTickets starting at $30 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nBuckle up for an evening of laughs as Lenny Clarke makes his triumphant return to the Firehouse stage! Lenny is a legendary Boston comedian\, actor\, and entertainer best known for his bold and sarcastic commentary\, quick wit\, and unmistakable Boston accent. A true icon in the New England comedy scene\, Clarke rose to fame in the 1980s and has since become a household name across the country. \n  \nVeteran Boston stand-up comedian\, Lenny Clarke has an oddly calibrated act — his material and his perspective is very much in an old-school Don Rickles vein\, but his attitude is very much that of a quick-witted young comic. This contrast comes wrapped in a conversational\, deceptively genial delivery\, with just brief moments of clowning. Clarke is also unpredictable in a very good way on stage — you don’t know where he’s going to go next. It’s never the same show twice. He’s a unique and funny performer … truly worth catching. — NYC Review. \n  \n \n

DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nSchool of Rock\nThe Musical\nTickets starting at $30 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nGet ready to have your faces melted with this killer rock musical coming to the Firehouse Center for the Arts this summer!  \nRock got no reason\, rock got no rhyme… You better get me to school on time! SUMMARY:Soggy Po Boys
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nSoggy Po Boys\nTickets starting at $23 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThe Soggy Po Boys\, native to New England\, have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond\, playing at concert halls and street corners; music festivals and burlesque festivals; bars and libraries; wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it’s celebrated and\nappreciated wherever it goes\, from the street to the theater. The Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed their sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical\ntraditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz\, the band includes traditional Caribbean tunes (it’s been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in the Caribbean)\, as well as Meters funk\, soul\, and brass band / street beat music. There are a myriad of traditions that flow into New Orleans culture just as there are tributaries that feed the Mississippi\, and the Po Boys are eager to explore what makes the music of New Orleans so damn special. You’ll hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound across the band and in the stories told by their original tunes. Despite the scope of its sound\, the outfit is only seven people\, and thrives on the interplay and group dynamics that bring this music to life. \nThe Soggy Po Boys are:\nShaina Shwartz : Vocals\nJim Dozet : Vocals + Guitar\nEric Klaxton : Clarinet + Saxophones\nNick Mainella : Tenor Saxophone\nJosh Gagnon : Trombone\nMike Effenberger : Piano\nScott Kiefner : Bass\nBrian Waterhouse : Drums
