SUMMARY:The Suitcase Junket
DESCRIPTION:$18/Members\n$20/Non-Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\n“A master of musical imagination” NPR World Cafe \n“The overall sound lands somewhere between the Avett Brothers and early\, dirty Black Keys. There is a Tom Waits vibe in the fuzzy megaphone reverb mic\, and something ancient\, near tribal\, in his whistles and moans” The Boston Globe \nThe Suitcase Junket is multi instrumentalist Matthew Lorenz. Solitary on stage and on the road\, his mind is crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage. With his 2020 release\, The End is New\, Lorenzs grand vision for the song overrides the how of it. The End is New is Lorenz’s sixth full length album as The Suitcase Junket\, his first for Renew Records/BMG. \nThe End is New was produced by trusted friend\, producer Steve Berlin of Los Lobos\, who produced The Suitcase Junket’s acclaimed 2018 release\, Mean Dog Trampoline. “I told Steve I wanted to make a doom folk record\,” says Lorenz. “That is what I had started calling my music when people asked. He was game. Neither of us knew quite what that meant at the time\, but I think we found out with The End is New. There is a heavy mix of hope and desperation in the sound and lyrically I was trying to be a mirror to society using truth\, myth\, confessions and stories.” \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Duke Robillard Band
DESCRIPTION:$25/Members\n$30/Non-Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\n\nWhether it’s a song\, a style\, an idiom or an image\, Duke Robillard will render it with mastery\, power\, nuance and an unerring grasp of its essence. \nBorn Michael John Robillard on October 4\, 1948\, in Woonsocket\, R.I.\, Duke has carved out one of blues’ most illustrious legacies\, while also trodding some lofty related territories as a guitarist\, vocalist\, songwriter\, bandleader\, studio sideman\, producer\, label operator and educator. \nAfter showing an early affinity for music and guitar\, he founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in Westerly\, R.I.\, in 1967. By adding horns\, Roomful announced itself emphatically as the prototypical jump blues band\, and became a New England legend and a fixture beyond\, as did Duke himself. \nHis unsurpassed mastery of the guitar style of T-Bone Walker (later crystallized memorably in his 2004 release “Blue Mood”) was deservedly heralded\, but his breadth was also head-turning – from swing\, standards and ballads to rockers\, gutbucket Chicago blues and rockabilly. \nBy the time Duke left Roomful after a dozen years\, he was firmly established in the upper echelon of contemporary blues guitarists. Duke went from Roomful to a stint with rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon and then to the first iteration of the Legendary Blues Band\, composed primarily of then-recent Muddy Waters sidemen. \nThe Duke Robillard Band debuted in 1981\, re-emerging as The Pleasure Kings with their eponymous 1984 album on Rounder. It and its sequel\, “Too Hot To Handle\,” burnished Duke’s songwriting portfolio; the 1987 jazz outing “Swing” (with saxophonist Scott Hamilton) underscored his versatility and remains a highlight. \nContinuing his solo career\, Duke replaced Jimmie Vaughan with The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He cut his own much-awaited straight blues album “Duke’s Blues” in 1993 for Canadian imprint Stony Plain\, leading eventually to a rewarding\, continuing and prolific alliance\, along with releases during the ensuing years on Point Blank/Virgin and Shanachie\, as well as instructional videos. He has also launched his own labels with Jesse Finkelstein\, Blue Duchess/Shining Stone. \nDuke’s prolificity has included producing albums by Billy Boy Arnold\, Joe Louis Walker\, Rosco Gordon\, Jimmy Witherspoon and Jay McShann\, Zuzu Bollin\, Billy Price and Otis Clay\, Sunny Crownover\, Bryan Lee and Al Basile as well as recording two collaborations with Herb Ellis\, a pairing with his successor in Roomful\, Ronnie Earl\, a seat in the New Guitar Summit with J. Geils and Gerry Beaudoin\, additional studio credits with Bob Dylan (the well-regarded 1997 “Time Out Of Mind”)\, Ruth Brown\, Johnny Adams\, Pinetop Perkins\, Snooky Pryor\, Al Copley\, Todd Sharpville and Tony Z\, and touring with Tom Waits in 2006. \nDuke’s resume is decorated with Grammy nominations\, Handy Awards and Blues Music Awards\, and other honors for his artistry\, recordings and productions within the United States and internationally. On his latest release\, “Duke Robillard and his Dames of Rhythm” on M.C. Records\, he wields an acoustic archtop and joins six thrushes for evocative and enjoyable renditions of 1920s and 1930s swing tunes; it’s a worthy successor to his 2016 BMA-winning “The Acoustic Blues And Roots Of Duke Robillard.” \nDuke remains based in Rhode Island and a whirlwind as a musician\, producer\, gardener and photographer. But wait\, there’s more: he’s now creating fine art abstract paintings\, too! At this point for Duke\, versatility and mastery should come as anything but a surprise; it just means more richness in a superlative career for us to celebrate. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:BLKBOK
DESCRIPTION:$18/Members\n$20/Non-Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\nBorn and raised in Detroit’s inner-city\, BLKBOK (born Charles Wilson IIl)\, grew up in a music-filled house. While his parents and siblings were all musically inclined little Charles could always be found walking his chubby fingers up and down the piano keys. His Mom had no choice but to nurture her baby’s keyboard obsession and by the time he was 8\, BLKBOK was an acclaimed piano prodigy\, winning statewide accolades and college-level competitions. \nWhen it came to music\, most of the kids he grew up with pursued hip-hop adopting rapper names. However\, it’s no coincidence that Charles chose the name BLKBOK\, which echoes that of one of the greatest pianists and composers of all time. The tag is also an apt reflection of the elements that have contributed to the artist’s identity and symbolizes his colorful journey from pop and hip-hop culture to his critically acclaimed\, neo-classical debut album Black Book\, and various Mixtape projects and collaborations. \nBLKBOK is no stranger to the industry grind\, having hit the road throughout his career as a lead pianist or musical director with artists including Rihanna\, Justin Timberlake\, Demi Lovato\, Cirque Du Soleil\, John Mayer and more. BLKBOK’s explosive and immersive live music performances engage his audience with his incredible talent and channels his experience from sharing the stage with the World’s biggest performers. \nBLKBOK’s critically-acclaimed debut album Black Book\, served as a founding cornerstone at the Juneteenth Foundation’s Freedom Concert. His first Mixtape release\, (VRARI\, and current Mixtape project Angels Watching Over Me\, with world-renowned tenor Lawrence Brownlee\, illustrate the innovative and disruptive musical landscape that is BLKBOK. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Soggy Po Boys - Album Release
DESCRIPTION:$15/Member \n$18/Non-Member \n  \nSoggy Po Boys return for an epic Album Release Tour! \n  \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThis fall\, New Orleans jazz exponents The Soggy Po Boys will celebrate the release of their 6th\nfull-length album\, Leave the Light On\, in a series of not-to-be-missed release shows around the\nNortheast.\nThe Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed\ntheir sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical\ntraditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz\, the band\nperforms traditional Caribbean tunes (it’s been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in\nthe Caribbean)\, as well as Meters funk\, soul\, and brass band / street beat music.\nThe latest record captures the 7-piece band’s mission of embracing tradition without becoming a\nmuseum piece. By blending traditional and original songs\, the album embraces themes of joy\,\nfrustration\, loneliness\, love\, and sadness\, and explores these feelings with the group’s trademark\nhumorous sincerity.\nLeave the Light On was recorded at Acadia Recording Company in Portland\, Maine where it was\ntracked by Jason Phelps. Phelps helped to sculpt the sounds and provided a perfect environment\nto capture the essence of what the band loves most: playing live. The result is music that is very\nmuch grounded in the sonic liminal space that the Po Boys occupy best–happy-ish\, live-ish\,\nnew-ish\, and bull-ish.\n“These guys have done their homework\, worked it out on the bandstand and put in the hours in\nthe studio. It all adds up to a party you can bring with you when you want to treat your friends to\na real good time.” -Ben Schenck of New Orleans’ Panorama Jazz Band\n“There’s no retro to their sound\, no putting on airs\, this is living music respectful of the source\,\nplayed by consummate professionals.” -Syncopated Times \n  \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \n

James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes\, but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor\, and in more recent years his Club 47 concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nTom Rush began his musical career in the early ’60s playing the Boston-area clubs while a Harvard student. The Club 47 was the flagship of the coffee house fleet\, and he was soon holding down a weekly spot there\, learning from the legendary artists who came to play\, honing his skills and growing into his talent. He had released two albums by the time he graduated. \nRush displayed then\, as he does today\, an uncanny knack for finding wonderful songs\, and writing his own – many of which have become classics re-interpreted by new generations.\n(It is testimony to the universality of his appeal that his songs have been folk hits\, country hits\, heavy metal and rap hits.) Signed by Elektra in 1965\, Rush made three albums for them\, culminating in The Circle Game\, which\, according to Rolling Stone\, ushered in the singer/songwriter era. \nIn the early ’70s\, folk turned to folk-rock\, and Rush\, ever adaptable\, saw more room to stretch out. Recording now for Columbia\, he toured tirelessly with a five man band\, playing concerts across the country. Endless promotional tours\, interviews\, television appearances\, and recording sessions added up to five very successful but exhausting years\, after which Tom decided to take a break and “recharge” his creative side at his New Hampshire farm. \nRush returned with a splash in 1981\, selling out Boston’s prestigious Symphony Hall in advance. Time off had not only rekindled Rush’s love of music\, it had re-ignited music audiences’ love of Rush. \nHe instinctively knew that his listeners were interested in both the old and the new\, and set out to create a musical forum like the Club 47 of the early sixties to allow artists and newcomers to share the same stage. In 1982\, he tried it out at Symphony Hall. The show was such a hit it became an annual event\, growing to fill two\, then three nights\, and the Club 47 series was born. Crafting concerts that combined well known artists such as Bonnie Raitt or Emmylou Harris with (then) unknowns like Alison Krauss or Mark O’ Connor\, Rush took the show on the road. From the ’80s to the present day\, Club 47 events have filled the nation’s finest halls to rave reviews\, and have been broadcast as national specials on PBS and NPR. \nIn 1999\, Columbia/Legacy released a Tom Rush retrospective album that covers his recorded musical history from 1962 to the present\, including tracks recorded for Columbia\, Elektra\, Prestige and his independent years. Entitled “The Very Best of Tom Rush: No Regrets”\, the 17-track compilation includes as a bonus a brand new Tom Rush composition\, “River Song\,” which features vocal contributions from Grammy winners Shawn Colvin and Marc Cohn. \nA live CD\, “Trolling for Owls” released in 2003 and published by Tom’s NIGHTLIGHT RECORDINGS\, captures Tom’s complete performance and includes\, for the first time\, some of the spoken stories that have endeared him to audiences. \n“How I Play (some of) My Favorite Songs”\, a DVD released in 2005 by Homespun Tapes. It shows how he plays ten of the memorable songs and guitar arrangements that have long made him one of America’s most beloved performers. \nIn 2009\, Tom recorded his first studio CD in 35 years. Recorded in Nashville\, “What I Know” was produced by Tom’s long-time friend Jim Rooney and includes original Tom Rush material\, as well as harmonies by Emmylou Harris\, Bonnie Bramlett and Nanci Griffith. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in New Hampshire when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic with training\, and his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. He’s doing what he loves\, and what audiences love him for: writing and playing …passionately\, tenderly…knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times  \n  \nPurchase Tickets

Raised in a coastal Massachusetts town north of Boston\, Reardon dove head first into music at the young age of 15\, and has dedicated nearly half of her life to writing\, recording and performing music around the world. The artist’s songs have been featured on multiple Spotify editorial playlists and Apple Music playlists\, with over 7 million streams on Apple Music alone. She has shared the stage with renowned artists including Lori McKenna\, Rodney Crowell and Anaïs Mitchell\, among others.  \nReardon’s creative journey thus far has been distinctly international. Carrying her songs and stories all over the globe\, she has performed hundreds upon hundreds of shows in over 13 countries – gathering experiences\, inspiration and soulful connections. Reardon’s travels include a six-month artist-in-residency stay in Dachau\, Germany in 2021. Her ever-deepening music carries a lyrical and melodic weight beyond her years\, being described as “brilliantly moving folk/pop with a lyrical depth and soul” (Performer Magazine) and “a melancholy little masterpiece” (American Songwriter Magazine). No Depression writes “Reardon is truly a treasure.”  \nThe past year has been one of artistic abundance and growth for Reardon. Her EP\, Changes\, which was recorded in Barcelona with renowned Spanish guitarist Pau Figueres as producer and collaborator\, released in July 2023. The title track features an original bilingual duet with Catalan sensation Judit Neddermann\, with whom Reardon formed a deep musical bond during her time in Spain and who appears on the EP courtesy of Universal Music Spain. Along with her own releases\, Reardon co-wrote and sings on Seth Glier’s haunting new single My Body Remembers. She was also nominated as 2023 Vocalist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards.  \nAt the start of 2024\, Reardon released her first live concert album\, “Live at Starseed Studios”. The project features 13 tracks from Reardon’s songbook with special acoustic arrangements by Pau Figueres on flamenco guitar and Arnau Figueres on bass. Reardon also recently returned to Spain to record new music with the Figueres brothers at The Sound of Wood studio near Barcelona. According to Reardon\, her upcoming seven-song project\, to be released in August 2024\, takes a more organic approach with vocals and instrumentation tracked live with a five-piece band. Her extensive travels\, recent move back to the States\, and regrounding in a place close to her roots has given the songwriter much to contemplate. In “The Way I Am”\, an upcoming single from the project\, Reardon reflects\, “I needed all this space just to feel the ache that has always been under everything.” These new songs explore uncharted emotional depths for an artist who is already known for her capacity to access tenderness. \nPurchase Tickets
