SUMMARY:Best If Used By
DESCRIPTION:$20/All Seats \nPurchase Tickets\n\nA chorus girl kicks up her heels — an actor jumps around on furniture — no big surprise. In the theatre\, these things happen. \nBut usually\, the chorus girl and the table-hopper aren’t senior citizens. This fall\, they will be. \nA new bittersweet stage comedy\, Best If Used By\, will be performed by two North Shore actors in the range of 80 years old. \nThe biting and sometimes surprising humor of the story focuses on issues of aging and ageism — topics of growing concern to increasing numbers of Americans. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Soggy Po Boys
DESCRIPTION:$15/Non-Members\n$12/Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThe Soggy Po Boys\, native to New England\, have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond\, playing at concert halls and street corners; music festivals and burlesque festivals; bars and libraries; wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it’s celebrated and appreciated wherever it goes\, from the street to the theater. \nThe Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed their sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical traditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz\, the band includes traditional Caribbean tunes (it’s been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in the Caribbean)\, as well as Meters funk\, soul\, and brass band / street beat music. There are a myriad of traditions that flow into New Orleans culture just as there are tributaries that feed the Mississippi\, and the Po Boys are eager to explore what makes the music of New Orleans so damn special. You’ll hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound across the band and in the stories told by their original tunes. Despite the scope of its sound\, the outfit is only seven people\, and thrives on the interplay and group dynamics that bring this music to life. \nThe Soggy Po Boys are: \nStu Dias- Vocals / Guitar\nEric Klaxton- Clarinet/Sop. DESCRIPTION:$15/Non-Member\n$12/Member \nPurchase Tickets\n\nWhat type of songwriter is Jay Psaros? That’s a question Psaros has been asking himself for years.  With his new Album “Long Time Coming\,” Psaros touches on many themes found within a coming of age.  The impact of distance\, reflections of a time since passed\, and the human spirit which rings hopeful in times of hard earned growth.  Pen and paper surrounded by the sound of beautifully crafted Folk\, Rock\, and Americana. \nThis album is a celebration of a career high for Psaros\, spending the past two years touring extensively with Gordon Lightfoot\, Three Dog Night\, Collective Soul and a variety of music’s most recognizable names spanning dozens of genres and decades.  “Long Time Coming” is a subtle nod to the bright moments\, and a warm embrace to the lessons learned along the way.   \nPsaros has always been a committed live performer.  Jay and his guitar are warm\, inviting and connective.  When with The Jay Psaros Band\, bigger energy prevails\, covering a wide range of musical influences set to the backdrop of Psaros’ own brand of New England Folk/Rock.  It is through these shows\, nearly 15 years of them\, that Psaros has been earning recognition and opportunity in places far beyond his New England Roots.     \nPsaros has shared the stage with: Gordon Lighfoot\, Styx\, Three Dog Night\, Collective Soul\, Lisa Loeb\, Ziggy Marley\, Little River Band\, Third Eye Blind\, Peter Cetera\, Anders Osborne\, Tower of Power\, Eddie Money\, REO Speedwagon\, Daughtry\, The Mavericks\, Billy Currington\, Foreigner\, Grand Funk Railroad\, Brett Eldredge\, Los Lonely Boys\, Boz Scaggs\, Joe Nichols\, Rusted Root\, Donovan Frankenreiter and many more. \nThe Jay Psaros Band is:\nJay Psaros\nSam Chase: Guitar/Vocals\nMatt Heisler: Drums\nSteve Davis: Bass\nBrad Goff: Keys \nPurchase Tickets\n\n

SUMMARY:Madeleine Peyroux
DESCRIPTION:$125/Members\n$145/Non-Members \nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\n*Due to the special nature of this event\, Member COMP Tickets and I Believe Passes will not be accepted*\n  \nMuch like songbird Edith Piaf\, Madeleine Peyroux spent her teenage years busking the busy streets of Paris. Just like the ‘little sparrow’\, Madeleine befriended the city’s street musicians and made its Latin quarter her first performing stage. Years later\, Peyroux would cite iconic Piaf as an influence on her music and record a rendition of the classic La Vie En Rose\, soulfully capturing the tune’s romanticism and melancholy. \nBorn in Athens\, Georgia in 1974\, Madeleine “grew up in a house filled with music” and from an early age “instinctively realised music’s soothing power” but it was her teenage years in the French capital that turned the childhood notion into an all-consuming vocation for life. \nYoung Madeleine moved to Paris with her mother in 1987 following her parents divorce. “To soothe me during the upheaval”\, she recalls\, “I was given a guitar and took to playing in the streets almost immediately.” \nThe curious teenager started skipping school to frequent the city’s Latin Quarter where street musicians dwelled\, keen to learn about their music and way of life. At 16\, the fearless teen joined the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band with whom she toured the streets of Europe\, discovering Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday while “voraciously picking up all the songs and all the guitar playing” she could. \nThe two-year touring adventure set Madeleine on a creative path for life and proved to be a gateway to greater things. In 1991 the band travelled to New York where Madeleine’s unique talents were spotted by Atlantic Records’ Yves Beauvais. The young singer declined the music executive’s initial record deal offer but relented several years later and in 1996 her breakthrough album Dreamland was released. \nDreamland sold a striking 200\,000 copies and Madeleine’s dusky voice was likened to that of Jazz greats Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Featuring top musicians Marc Ribot\, Vernon Reid\, Cyrus Chestnut\, Charlie Giordano\, Greg Cohen\, Kenny Wollesen\, Regina Carter\, Leon Parker and James Carter\, the album included Madeleine’s renditions of Holiday’s Gettin’ Some Fun Out of Life\, Bessie Smith’s Lovesick Blues\, and I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter. \nDreamland cemented Madeleine Peyroux as a ‘classic’ musical talent that was here to stay\, and the soulful singer found herself touring the world\, singing with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and opening for Cesaria Evora. \nThirty years after her formative busking days Peyroux is the proud curator of nine beguiling albums and an accomplished performer with sell out worldwide tours under her belt. Her atmospheric version of Serge Gainsborough’s La Javanaise was used in the soundtrack of Oscar Winner The Shape of Water and her countless accolades include the coveted BBC International Artist Of The Year honour. \nMadeleine’s thirst for creative exploration is unfading and her willingness to face creative challenges remains as solid now as it was three decades ago. \nWith endearing passion and great curiosity the unstoppable genre-defying virtuoso continues her search for the good and examines life with the treasured William Congreve belief that Music has charms to soothe the savage beast. \nMadeleine might attribute her success to “mostly luck” but to the industry and loyal fans alike\, it is the immense talent and utter dedication to her craft that shines through. “Peyroux is a tremendous talent and almost a total intuitive” reflects Larry Klein\, “she has the capacity to get the magic. When she sings and plays her guitar\, great things happen.” \nPURCHASE TICKETS

It can be based on the theme\, or it can be about any subject they would like to talk about. \nThis is the eighth season of true-life stories told without notes or props on themes ranging from synchronicity to pronouns. The Studio’s Full Moon Story Slam is modeled after NPR’s Moth Radio Hour. It is a story telling competition with a few simple criteria for both the official judges and the audience to vote for their favorites. \nIt has been a consistently popular event since its inception\, so much so that\, during Covid restrictions\, it expanded nationwide as a Zoom event. \nThe Slam is your chance to gather as friends and share true stories from your lives. Simply put\, a story slam is a competition based on the art of storytelling. It puts a dual emphasis on content and performance\, encouraging storytellers to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. It is an exercise in crafting stories within a set time limit. \nPurchase Tickets\n\n

SUMMARY:The Sweetback Sisters Country Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Non-Member: $30\nMember: $27 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThe Sweetback Sisters are BACK! For the first time since 2019\, The Sweetback Sisters will be bringing their Country Christmas Sing Along Spectacular to the Firehouse Center for the Arts and we can’t wait for an evening full of music\, trivia\, prizes\, warm-n-fuzzies\, and so.much.more. Don’t miss out on this holiday tradition! \nTechnically speaking\, The Sweetback Sisters come from Brooklyn\, but philosophically\, they hail from a parallel universe\, one where country music history zigged instead of zagged. \n“I wouldn’t call us a throwback band\,” says Emily Miller. “What we do is look back to the golden era of country music and imagine that the genre took a different evolutionary fork\, that the honky-tonk element took over rather than the pop-rock sound you hear everywhere today. I feel like we’re actually a very modern band\, just on an alternate timeline.” \nIt’s been more than 15 years since The Sweetback Sisters first began forging their own sonic universe\, and on their new album\, ‘King Of Killing Time\,’ they push their sound into more adventurous and playful territory than ever before. Centered around the charismatic\, airtight harmonies of Emily Miller and Zara Bode\, the record’s ten tracks are a mix of infectious originals and unexpected interpretations of everything from George Jones to Gram Parsons. Hints of jazz and ragtime flesh out the Sisters’ unique brand of classic country\, as Miller\, Bode\, and their remarkably versatile band conjure up a singular blend of heart\, humor\, and virtuosic musicianship. \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Fastball
DESCRIPTION:$50/All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\nFormed in 1994 in Austin\, Texas\, Fastball combined a fondness for melodic\, Beatles-inspired pop with the alternative aesthetic of late-’90s mainstream rock. Guitarist/vocalist Miles Zuniga\, bassist/vocalist Tony Scalzo\, and drummer Joey Shuffield — all veterans of Austin’s underground rock scene — originally banded together under the name Magneto U.S.A. After signing with Hollywood Records\, the musicians changed their name to Fastball and released their debut album\, Make Your Mama Proud\, in 1996. The album demonstrated the band’s synthesis of modern flavor and bygone pop hooks\, a combination that would later launch Fastball into the mainstream. \nThe follow-up effort\, All the Pain Money Can Buy\, appeared in early 1998\, featuring a considerably tighter band and more pop flourishes. Although the bandmates were still working side jobs at the time of its release\, lead-off single “The Way” proved to be a meteoric hit\, topping the American rock charts for seven weeks while enjoying crossover success as a pop single. “Fire Escape” and the piano-fueled “Out of My Head” did similarly well\, and All the Pain Money Can Buy went platinum within six months of its release\, earning two Grammy nominations along the way. Fastball celebrated their success with a considerable amount of touring\, including shows alongside Marcy Playground and Everclear. \nThe Harsh Light of Day arrived in fall 2000\, featuring piano work by Billy Preston and an increasingly arty sound\, including the Top 40 hit “You’re an Ocean.” Fastball eventually left the Hollywood roster in favor of a new deal with Rykodisc. A retrospective compilation\, Painting the Corners: The Best of Fastball\, marked the band’s final release for Hollywood Records in 2002. Two years later\, they resurfaced with Keep Your Wig On\, having fully embraced their power pop roots with the help of co-producer Adam Schlesinger. The album strengthened Fastball’s work ethic\, with frontmen Zuniga and Scalzo writing together for the first time. That collaborative spirit helped fuel another album\, Little White Lies\, which appeared in 2009 to warm reviews. \nAfter several years of focusing on live work\, Fastball returned to the studio in 2015\, recording in their hometown of Austin. The project emerged in May 2017\, a self-released album titled Step into Light\, and the band supported it with an extensive tour of the United States and Canada. The following year\, Fastball celebrated the 20th anniversary of All the Pain Money Can Buy with an expanded edition of the 1998 album; they accompanied the reissue with a hometown concert in Austin\, Texas. \nMost recently\, in October 2019\, Fastball returned with The Help Machine\, an album produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos\, and in Sept 2021 and throughout 2022 have been releasing music exclusively thru Patreon. Their new album\, The Deep End\, was released on June 17\, 2022 and they have spent most of 2023 touring the country with Gin Blossoms\, Sugar Ray\, and Tonic. \nPurchase Tickets

His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor and warm\, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. \nRush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s\, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes\, but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor\, and in more recent years his Club 47® concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in Massachusetts when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic\, and his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. He’s written a number of new songs. SUMMARY:Warren Miller's ALL TIME
DESCRIPTION:$13/Non-Member\n$10/Member \nPurchase Tickets\n\nWarren Miller’s ALL TIME is bringing 74 years of filmmaking reimagined to a theater near you this fall. And this season\, it’s all about good turns and good snow on good hills with good people.  Narrated by Jonny Moseley\, ALL TIME dives deep into elements that Warren himself first identified as the stuff of which snowy dreams are made. From the birth of ski towns like Sun Valley and Aspen to icons and innovators like the original hotdoggers\, the film brings the best of seven decades along with humor and inspiration from today—featuring Maine’s finest athlete\, Donny Pelletier\, and the next generation of skiers and riders at Woodward Park City. \nLess a documentary than a love letter\, ALL TIME is a way to honor how\, where\, and with whom we’ve made ski and snowboard movies since Warren first picked up a camera in 1949.  \nJoin us as we celebrate how snow sports have burrowed into our collective consciousness as an obsession and a way of life. \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \n  \n
