SUMMARY:Spookley the Square Pumpkin - A LIVE Family Drive-In Musical Theater Experience
DESCRIPTION:DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER\, TONIGHT’S 6:30PM PERFORMANCE OF SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN HAS BEEN CANCELLED. \nPresented by Newburyport Bank\, in partnership with Historic New England\, Firehouse Center for the Arts is thrilled to present Spookley the Square Pumpkin: The Musical. The live musical theater experience will be presented “drive-in” style with audience members enjoying the production from the comfort of their own vehicle and the show being broadcast straight to their radios. Airing every year on Disney\, the animated television special\, adapted from the bestselling Spookley book series\, has been a long time Halloween tradition for families all across the country. A Theatre For Young Audiences (TYA) musical with a big heart\, Spookley The Square Pumpkin: The Musical is no tricks and nothing but a treat for all ages! \nSpookley The Square Pumpkin: The Musical tells the story of a square pumpkin living in a round pumpkin patch on Holiday Hill Farm. SUMMARY:The Gin Game
DESCRIPTION:Donate from your Heart with suggested levels of $10/single ticket or $20/family \n*PURCHASE AND WATCH ANY TIME BETWEEN JANUARY 7 AND JANUARY 10* \nPurchase Tickets\n\nAward-winning actors M. Lynda Robinson and Richard McElvain of Boston Reads partner with the Firehouse Center for the Arts and The Actors Studio of Newburyport to present this virtual production in classic readers theater format. The set changes and costumes are minimal with the audience using their imagination to interpret the words of the play. \nThis winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for Drama\, which originally starred Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn and was later revived with Julie Harris and Charles Durning\, uses a card game as a metaphor for life. Weller Martin is playing solitaire on the porch of a seedy nursing home. Enter Fonsia Dorsey\, a prim\, self-righteous lady. They discover they both dislike the home and enjoy gin rummy\, so they begin to play and to reveal intimate details of their lives. Fonsia wins every time\, and their secrets become weapons used against one another. Weller longs for a victory to counter a lifetime of defeats\, but it doesn’t happen. He leaves the stage a broken man\, and Fonsia realizes her self-righteous rigidity has led to an embittered\, lonely\, old age. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:19th Annual New Works Festival
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Full Festival Pass\n\nFull Festival Pass $12 / Single Evening Pass $5\nOver the past 18 years\, more than 200 new works have been performed on the Firehouse stage through our annual Firehouse New Works Festival\, which fosters the growth of New England playwrights while showcasing the talent of local and regional actors and directors. Playwrights from across New England submit their 10-minute shorts\, one-act\, and full-length plays to an independent panel who select the festival’s shows in anonymous readings. Directors and their casts then work with selected playwrights to produce two weekends of original theater. \nSomething different that we are doing this year – following the Evening of Shorts\, the attendees will receive a short survey allowing them to vote for their favorites. The Top 4 vote getters will get a second showing following the One Act on Sunday\, January 31. \nWithout further ado\, we are pleased to announce this year’s selections for the 19th Annual New Works Festival. \nFriday\, 1/29 @ 8pm: Full Length Play\nHitch\nby James McLindon\n*Honegger Prize Winner for Best Full Length* \nPurchase Tickets\n\nSaturday 1/30 @ 8pm: An Evening of Shorts \nPole Position\nby Michael Towers\n*Honegger Prize Winner for Best Short Play* \nA Missionary Zeal\nby Charles Hertz \nThe Wrong Taxi\nby Charlene Donaghy \nTut Tut\nby Michael Towers \nRespect Your Elders\nby Hope Shangle \nReservations\nby Steve Eimert \nThe Handle\nby Scott Sullivan \nPurchase Tickets\n\nSunday\, 1/31 @ 7pm: One-Act and Shorts \nThe Rise of Jessie Bates\nby Paul Antokolsky\n*Honegger Prize Winner for Best One Act* \nPurchase Tickets

Led by the international hit\, “Day by Day\,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs\, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord\,” “Learn Your Lessons Well\,” “All for the Best\,” “All Good Gifts\,” “Turn Back\, ‘O Man\,” and “By My Side.” \nA small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games\, storytelling techniques\, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs\, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville\, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion\, Jesus’ messages of kindness\, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life. \nBoasting a score with chart-topping songs\, a book by a visionary playwright (John-Michael Tebelak) and a feature film\, Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences. \nDirectors: Carli Hamilton & Justin Knowlton \nMusic Director: Justin Knowlton \nChoreographer: Carli Hamilton \n  \nPurchase Tickets

DESCRIPTION:$15 All Seats \nPurchase Tickets\n\nPlease note our updated COVID Protocols here. \nAfter Polaroid acknowledged the ascendancy of digital technology and announced it would shut down its last factory in 2008\, eccentric Austrian scientist Dr. Florian Kaps became a man with a mission: to replicate the company’s famously complicated formula and revive interest in instant photography. But passion alone can’t make up for a lack of business acumen. SUMMARY:The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
DESCRIPTION:Tickets:\n$18 – Adult\n$16 – Students/Seniors/Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\nPlease note our updated COVID Protocols here. \nTHE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW by Washington Irving\, adapted and directed by Jack Neary. Assistant Director\, John Budzyna.  \n\nIchabod Crane is the newly-hired school teacher in the post-Revolutionary War village of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod is the kind of soft-spoken\, seemingly timid sort who is constantly bullied by the ruffians who loiter about the Sleepy Hollow Tavern. These wastrels are led by Brom Bones\, who is a big\, booming lug who loves to play practical jokes and intimidate folks like Ichabod. These men parry over the coquettish charms of Katrina Van Tassel. As it says in the script: “Men will do anything for Katrina. All men. All the time.” It is this love triangle that leads to one of the most frightening\, exciting and spooky conclusions in all of American literature. Beware the Headless Horseman! \n\nThis is a fast-moving\, funny and extremely suspenseful telling of this much beloved tale. Plus\, there’ll be music\, dancing and ghost stories told by a talented cast of 29 adult and student actors. Set Design by Kirk Trach. Stage Manager\, Teri Contino. \n\nThe cast includes (in alphabetical order): \nGeoff Adams\, Annie Kate Ames\, Amber Barbere\, Kairi Bohanan\, Lincoln Bohanan\, Melina Bohanan\, Fred Calcinari\, Julianna Cowles\, Maureen Daley\, Oliver Dehner\, Jocelyn Duford\, Hanna Gustafson\, Tom Hickey\, Corrine Hickey\, Charlie Himmel\, Shea Hoffman\, Michael Johnson\, Brooke Lawton\, Loren Lee\, John Manning\, Anna Marcheterre\, Catherine Melnick\, Courtney Metcalf\, Kate Miller\, Ashley Risteen\, Jessie Rosenthal\, Jonas Trach\, Hannah Vincent\, Jennifer Wilson\, and Sawyer Wilson. \nPurchase Tickets
