SUMMARY:Soggy Po Boys
DESCRIPTION:$15/Non-Members\n$12/Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThe Soggy Po Boys\, native to New England\, have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond\, playing at concert halls and street corners; music festivals and burlesque festivals; bars and libraries; wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it’s celebrated and appreciated wherever it goes\, from the street to the theater. \nThe Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed their sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical traditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz\, the band includes traditional Caribbean tunes (it’s been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in the Caribbean)\, as well as Meters funk\, soul\, and brass band / street beat music. There are a myriad of traditions that flow into New Orleans culture just as there are tributaries that feed the Mississippi\, and the Po Boys are eager to explore what makes the music of New Orleans so damn special. You’ll hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound across the band and in the stories told by their original tunes. Despite the scope of its sound\, the outfit is only seven people\, and thrives on the interplay and group dynamics that bring this music to life. \nThe Soggy Po Boys are: \nStu Dias- Vocals / Guitar\nEric Klaxton- Clarinet/Sop. Sax\nNick Mainella- Tenor Sax\nJosh Gagnon – Trombone\nMike Effenberger- Piano\nScott Kiefner- Upright Bass\nBrian Waterhouse – Drums/Percussion \nPurchase Tickets\n\n

SUMMARY:Suzzy Roche & Lucy Wainwright Roche
DESCRIPTION:Row A-D: $33 for Non-Member/$30 for Members\nRow E-K: $30 for Non-Member/$27 for Members\nRow L-O: $27 for Non-Member/$25 for Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\nSuzzy and Lucy released their last recording I Can Still Hear You in the fall of 2020.  The album was largely recorded in the darkest hours of the Covid shutdown in the spring of 2020 in NYC.  After starting the recording in Nashville\, the mother/daughter team went back to New York City just as the city closed up.  They set up studios in their bedrooms: Lucy in Brooklyn\, Suzzy in Manhattan\, and finished the record.  Hailed as “one of the year’s best” by Americana Highways\, the new album has been met with high praise. (see attached sheet).  Suzzy and Lucy have recorded two albums previously\, Fairytale & Myth (Independent Music Award winner) and Mud & Apples (also nominated for IMA). \nThose familiar with Lucy Wainwright Roche are aware of her bell tone voice\, her unshakable melodies\, and her knack for wise\, wry lyrics. It’s no surprise that Wainwright Roche is the daughter of Suzzy Roche (The Roches) and Loudon Wainwright III\, half sibling to Rufus and Martha Wainwright.  Lucy has carved out her own career as a touring singer/songwriter and recording artist\, with five critically acclaimed solo recordings released on her own label: Eight Songs\, Eight More\, Lucy\, There’s a Last Time for Everything and her most recent Little Beast (Winner of the Independent Music Award for Best Singer/Songwriter.)  Other recordings include a collaboration with her sister Martha Wainwright on Songs In the Dark\, a collection of lullabies. For over a decade\, as a solo act\, armed with a guitar\, a deadpan sense of humor\, insightful songs\, and a voice that makes tough guys cry\, she’s built a solid following across the US and Europe.  As an opening act she has often appeared with such luminaries as The Indigo Girls\, Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Neko Case\, and her brother\, Rufus\, and she’s one of a few who can step out alone in front of a thousand strangers and play an entire set to a rapt audience. \nSuzzy Roche is a singer/songwriter/performer/author and founding member of the singing group The Roches.  She has recorded over eighteen albums\, written music for TV and Film\, and toured extensively for forty years across the U.S. and Europe. She has performed with the experimental theater troupe\, The Wooster Group\, for over twenty years. Her children’s book Want To Be In A Band (Random House) was published in February 2013.  Wayward Saints (Hyperion/Voice) is her first novel and was a selection of the Spring 2012 B&N Discover Great New Writers Program. Her most recent novel The Town Crazy was published in August of 2020. www.suzzyroche.com \nTHE CHICAGO TRIBUNE’s review of Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche’s performance at The Space in Evanston Illinois said\, “Their voices intertwined in gorgeous union…mother and daughter had the room in the palms of their talented hands. This was a glittering gem of a show.” \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Rayland Baxter
DESCRIPTION:w/ special guest Sugadaisy\n\nMember: $60 – Rows A-D/$50 – Rows E-K/$40 – Rows L-O\nNon-Member: $65 – Rows A-D/$55 – Rows E-K/$45 – Rows L-O \nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\nFor the making of his fourth album If I Were a Butterfly\, Rayland Baxter holed up for over a year at a former rubber-band factory turned studio in the Kentucky countryside—a seemingly humble environment that proved to be something of a wonderland. “I spent that year living in a barn with the squirrels and the birds\, on my own most of the time\, and I discovered so much about music and how to create it\,” says the Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter. “Instead of going into a studio with a producer for two weeks\, I just waited for the record to build itself. I’d get up and go outside\, see a butterfly and connect that with some impulsive thought I’d had three months ago\, and suddenly a song I’d been working on would make sense. That’s how the whole album came to be.” \nThe follow-up to 2018’s critically acclaimed Wide Awake\, If I Were a Butterfly finds Baxter co-producing alongside Tim O’Sullivan (Grace Potter\, The Head and the Heart) and Kai Welch (Molly Tuttle\, Sierra Hull)\, slowly piecing together the album’s patchwork of lush psychedelia and Beatlesesque pop. In addition to working at Thunder Sound (the Kentucky studio he called home for months on end)\, Baxter recorded in California\, Texas\, Tennessee\, and Washington\, enlisting a remarkable lineup of musicians: Shakey Graves\, Lennon Stella\, several members of Cage the Elephant\, Zac Cockrell of Alabama Shakes\, Morning Teleportation’s Travis Goodwin\, and legendary Motown drummer Miss Bobbye Hall\, among many others. In an especially meaningful turn\, two of the album’s tracks feature the elegant pedal steel work of his father\, Bucky Baxter (a musician who performed with Bob Dylan and who passed away in May 2020). Thanks to the extraordinary care and ingenuity behind its creation\, If I Were a Butterfly arrives as a work of rarefied magic\, capable of stirring up immense feeling while leaving the listener happily wonderstruck. \nBaxter’s debut release as a producer\, If I Were a Butterfly bears a dazzling unpredictability that has much to do with his limitless imagination as a collector and collagist of sound. “Sometimes the bullfrogs in the pond outside would pulse in a certain tempo and I’d apply that to a song\, or I’d hear a bird chirping and it would inspire me to add harmonica in a particular place\,” he says. “I could be walking around this massive building in the middle of the night and the air-conditioning would turn on\, and it’d give me the idea to include a synth part that holds a similar note. I’d wait for those moments to happen and whenever I tried to force anything\, the music usually rejected it.” \nA perfect introduction to If I Were a Butterfly’s elaborate sonic world\, the album-opening title track begins with a recording of a Baxter singing at age four\, then drifts into a delicately sprawling reverie ornamented with so many lovely details (lavish flute and cello melodies\, radiant horns\, the hypnotic harmonies of Lennon Stella and Baxter’s girlfriend\, Sophia Rose). “I liked the idea of the first voice on the record being me as a little kid\, not knowing where I’d be today\,” notes Baxter\, who embedded newly unearthed audio clips of himself and his older sister Brooke all throughout the album. Graced with the combustible guitar work of his bandmate Barney Cortez\, “Billy Goat” kicks up a potent tension with its restless grooves and hot-tempered gang vocals. “It’s a breakup song about being with someone who’s on a different life path—one side wants to influence the other\, and inevitably you part ways\,” says Baxter. From there\, the album takes on a feverish momentum with “Rubberband Man\,” a delightfully frenzied track channeling a wild and giddy freedom. “There’s rubber bands all over the property at Thunder Sound—in the earth\, in the concrete\, used as insulation for the studio\,” says Baxter. “I took a mishmash of images in my head and it turned into a song about staying flexible\, rolling with the punches.” \nIn its searching reflection on love and loss and striving for transcendence\, If I Were a Butterfly reaches a quietly glorious intensity on “Tadpole”: a piano ballad threaded with childhood memories at turns oddly tender (catching frogs and crawfish in a nearby toxic creek) and nightmarish (hearing the gunshot when an across-the-street neighbor took her own life). And on “My Argentina\,” If I Were a Butterfly closes out with a piano-driven and painfully raw outpouring\, its starkness intermittently broken by soulful strings and gospel-esque harmonies. “One time at the studio I stayed up all night and played that song maybe 100 times; we ended up using the last take\, which was recorded at about five in the morning\,” says Baxter. “It’s a song that represents the thoughts one might have about a perfect love life\, and I love how it ends the album in a big angelic cloud of reverb.” \nFor Baxter\, the act of self-producing such a sonically and emotionally expansive body of work proved both exhilarating and arduous. “It really wore me out to spend all that time alone at the studio\, editing the hell out of this record; my heart definitely suffered\,” he says. “But I also had the guidance of my dad\, who was in my dreams all the time—if I was moving too fast\, I’d hear him telling me to slow down.” Another profound influence on the album-making process: the 2018 deaths of Baxter’s close friends Billy Swayze (a musician whose parents owned the rubber band company that became Thunder Sound) and Tiger Merritt (the vocalist/guitarist for Morning Teleportation\, who worked with Swayze in constructing the studio). “Billy and Tiger had been going up there since 2015\, and finally they turned it into a legit recording studio\,” he says. “It’s a very special place to me\, so they’re two of the four angels I decided to dedicate this record to.” \nEven in its most somber moments\, If I Were a Butterfly wholly fulfills Baxter’s mission of imparting a certain purposeful joy. “It’s been a weird few years\, but I think the big picture is for us to just exist and find love and be loved\, and try to see that all the daily bullshit is simply bugs on the windshield\,” says Baxter. “I hope that this album makes people feel the way I do whenever I listen to my favorite records\, and that it gives them a platform to dream on.” \nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\nZach Littleton and Johny Lovan have been aware of each other’s existence since third grade in Bowling Green\, Ky. — after all\, Littleton “dated” Lovan’s sister in that era “mostly because we were both big redheads and everyone said we should\,” he recalls. It took many years for them to start making music together\, and even longer for them to realize they worked best as a duo\, but since 2016\, Sugadaisy has quietly built a substantial fanbase by simply being its weird\, wonderful selves. \nIndeed\, Sugadaisy is no ordinary band\, largely because Littleton and Lovan are no ordinary musicians. One of their songs (“Space Cadet”) has nearly two million listens on Spotify simply thanks to word of mouth and some love from high-trafficking YouTube creators. They’ve performed live in shirts and ties and with their heads covered in pantyhose. With tongue more often than not firmly in cheek\, they’ve largely released tunes rooted in guitar-based folk and singer/songwriter fare\, but they also have punk\, hip-hop\, Spanish\, and math rock songs itching to emerge. \n  \n  \n  \nPURCHASE TICKETS

This lineup hasn’t played together since 2003.  \nThe band will feature singer/guitarist Dylan Metrano\, cellist/singer Juliet Nelson\, guitarist John Ryan Gallagher\, bassist Jake Trussell\, and drummer Matt Kulik.  \nUpon its release\, Hallie Engel at Boston’s Weekly Dig raved of Blessed Are the Trials We Will Find\,  “Tiger Saw has created an album with no sharp edges; it’s music as delicate as a China teacup\, with beauty hiding in the empty spaces. Things move from wistfully slow to quiet pop and always seem like they could break out of the mold and explode midway-but never do. And that’s what makes this band so nice; the listener is never roused from the honeyed drowsiness Tiger Saw induces.” \nThere is something magical about the vocal harmonies between Metrano and Nelson\, and at the Firehouse show\, Tiger Saw will revisit their early songs from this era- songs which haven’t been played live in decades. \nSinger/songwriter Jason Anderson will open the show. Anderson lived in Newburyport for a brief time while collaborating with the band\, and now lives in New Brunswick\, Canada. Jason Anderson is an award-winning indie folk artist whose work is as anthemic as it is affecting. Personal and passionate\, his music crackles with life. MRTI Agency wrote “Jason sings directly to your heart\, and does it so vividly\, you can’t help but feel the effects of the performance long after you leave. Yes… he is THAT good.” \nDon’t miss this very special one-time event in a beautiful setting\, where it all began. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:An Evening with John Gorka
DESCRIPTION:$35/Members\n$40/Non-Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\nFrom New Jersey\, John Gorka is a world-renowned singer-songwriter who got his start at a neighborhood coffeehouse in eastern Pennsylvania. Though small\, Godfrey Daniels was and is one of the oldest and most venerable music institutions and has long been a hangout for music lovers and aspiring musicians. In the late 1970’s\, John was was one of these aspiring musicians. Although his academic coursework at Moravian College lay in Philosophy and History\, music began to offer paramount enticements. Soon he found himself living in the club’s basement and acting as resident MC and sound man\, encountering legendary folk troubadours like Canadian singer-songwriter Stan Rogers\, Eric Andersen\, Tom Paxton and Claudia Schmidt. Their brand of folk-inspired acoustic music inspired him\, and before long he was performing his own songs – mostly as an opener for visiting acts. Soon he started traveling to New York City\, where Jack Hardy’s legendary Fast Folk circle (a breeding ground for many a major singer-songwriter) became a powerful source of education and encouragement. Folk meccas like Texas’ Kerrville Folk Festival (where he won the New Folk Award in 1984) and Boston followed\, and his stunningly soulful baritone voice and original songwriting began turning heads. Those who had at one time inspired him – Suzanne Vega\, Bill Morrissey\, Nanci Griffith\, Christine Lavin\, Shawn Colvin – had become his peers. \nIn 1987\, the young Minnesota-based Red House Records caught wind of John’s talents and released his first album\, I Know\, to popular and critical acclaim. With unusual drive and focus\, John hit the ground running and\, when an offer came from Windham Hill’s Will Ackerman in 1989\, he signed with that label’s imprint\, High Street Records. He proceeded to record five albums with High Street over the next seven years: Land of the Bottom Line\, Jack’s Crows\, Temporary Road\, Out of the Valley and Between Five and Seven. His albums and his touring (over 150 nights a year at times) brought new accolades for his craft. His rich multifaceted songs full of depth\, beauty and emotion gained increasing attention from critics and audiences across the country\, as well as in Europe where his tours led him through Italy\, Belgium\, Scotland\, Ireland\, Holland\, Switzerland and Germany. He also started sharing tours with many notable friends—Nanci Griffith and Mary Chapin Carpenter among them. All this brought his music to an ever-widening audience. His video for the single “When She Kisses Me” found a long-term rotation on VH-1’s “Current Country\,” as well as on CMT and the Nashville Network. \nIn 1998\, after five successful recordings and seven years at Windham Hill/High Street\, John felt the need for a change and decided to return to his musical roots at Red House Records. The choice was driven\, in part\, by the artistic integrity that the label represents in an industry where the business of music too often takes precedence. The 1998 release After Yesterday marked a decidedly different attitude towards making music for John\, and his next release The Company You Keep held fast to his tradition of fine songwriting\, yet moved forward down new avenues. Its fourteen songs displays John’s creative use of lyrics and attention to detail. Andy Stochansky played drums and shared production credits with John and Rob Genadek. Ani DiFranco\, Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Lucy Kaplansky and Patty Larkin contributed stellar guitar work and vocals to this fan favorite. Old Futures Gone was informed by his life as husband and father of two young children and also contained the colorful experience of many hard years on the road. Writing in the Margins followed in 2006 and was an engaging collection of sweet and serious songs that spanned many musical genres—folk\, pop\, country and soul—and featured guest vocalists Nanci Griffith\, Lucy Kaplansky and Alice Peacock. Now with this\, his 11th studio album\, he returns to his roots with So Dark You See\, his most compelling and traditional album to date. \nIn addition to his 11 critically acclaimed albums\, John released a collector’s edition box featuring a hi-definition DVD and companion CD called The Gypsy Life. Windham Hill also released a collection of John’s greatest hits from the label called Pure John Gorka. In 2010\, he also released an album with his friends and Red House label-mates Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson under the name Red Horse. Getting high praise from critics and fans alike\, it landed on the Billboard Folk Charts and was one of the most played albums on folk radio. \nMany well known artists have recorded and/or performed John Gorka songs\, including Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Nanci Griffith\, Mary Black and Maura O’Connell. John has graced the stage of Austin City Limits\, Mountain Stage\, etown and has appeared on CNN. His new song “Where No Monuments Stand” is featured in the upcoming documentary Every War Has Two Losers\, about activist and Oregon Poet Laureate William Stafford (1914-1993). \nJohn Gorka lives in Minnesota and when not on the road\, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He continues to tour\, playing festivals\, theaters and clubs all over North America and Europe. \nPurchase Tickets

DESCRIPTION:$18/Members\n$20/Non-Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\n“A master of musical imagination” NPR World Cafe \n“The overall sound lands somewhere between the Avett Brothers and early\, dirty Black Keys. There is a Tom Waits vibe in the fuzzy megaphone reverb mic\, and something ancient\, near tribal\, in his whistles and moans” The Boston Globe \nThe Suitcase Junket is multi instrumentalist Matthew Lorenz. Solitary on stage and on the road\, his mind is crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage. With his 2020 release\, The End is New\, Lorenzs grand vision for the song overrides the how of it. The End is New is Lorenz’s sixth full length album as The Suitcase Junket\, his first for Renew Records/BMG. \nThe End is New was produced by trusted friend\, producer Steve Berlin of Los Lobos\, who produced The Suitcase Junket’s acclaimed 2018 release\, Mean Dog Trampoline. “I told Steve I wanted to make a doom folk record\,” says Lorenz. “That is what I had started calling my music when people asked. He was game. Neither of us knew quite what that meant at the time\, but I think we found out with The End is New. There is a heavy mix of hope and desperation in the sound and lyrically I was trying to be a mirror to society using truth\, myth\, confessions and stories.” \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Duke Robillard Band
DESCRIPTION:$25/Members\n$30/Non-Members \nPurchase Tickets\n\n\nWhether it’s a song\, a style\, an idiom or an image\, Duke Robillard will render it with mastery\, power\, nuance and an unerring grasp of its essence. \nBorn Michael John Robillard on October 4\, 1948\, in Woonsocket\, R.I.\, Duke has carved out one of blues’ most illustrious legacies\, while also trodding some lofty related territories as a guitarist\, vocalist\, songwriter\, bandleader\, studio sideman\, producer\, label operator and educator. \nAfter showing an early affinity for music and guitar\, he founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in Westerly\, R.I.\, in 1967. By adding horns\, Roomful announced itself emphatically as the prototypical jump blues band\, and became a New England legend and a fixture beyond\, as did Duke himself. \nHis unsurpassed mastery of the guitar style of T-Bone Walker (later crystallized memorably in his 2004 release “Blue Mood”) was deservedly heralded\, but his breadth was also head-turning – from swing\, standards and ballads to rockers\, gutbucket Chicago blues and rockabilly. \nBy the time Duke left Roomful after a dozen years\, he was firmly established in the upper echelon of contemporary blues guitarists. Duke went from Roomful to a stint with rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon and then to the first iteration of the Legendary Blues Band\, composed primarily of then-recent Muddy Waters sidemen. \nThe Duke Robillard Band debuted in 1981\, re-emerging as The Pleasure Kings with their eponymous 1984 album on Rounder. It and its sequel\, “Too Hot To Handle\,” burnished Duke’s songwriting portfolio; the 1987 jazz outing “Swing” (with saxophonist Scott Hamilton) underscored his versatility and remains a highlight. \nContinuing his solo career\, Duke replaced Jimmie Vaughan with The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He cut his own much-awaited straight blues album “Duke’s Blues” in 1993 for Canadian imprint Stony Plain\, leading eventually to a rewarding\, continuing and prolific alliance\, along with releases during the ensuing years on Point Blank/Virgin and Shanachie\, as well as instructional videos. He has also launched his own labels with Jesse Finkelstein\, Blue Duchess/Shining Stone. \nDuke’s prolificity has included producing albums by Billy Boy Arnold\, Joe Louis Walker\, Rosco Gordon\, Jimmy Witherspoon and Jay McShann\, Zuzu Bollin\, Billy Price and Otis Clay\, Sunny Crownover\, Bryan Lee and Al Basile as well as recording two collaborations with Herb Ellis\, a pairing with his successor in Roomful\, Ronnie Earl\, a seat in the New Guitar Summit with J. Geils and Gerry Beaudoin\, additional studio credits with Bob Dylan (the well-regarded 1997 “Time Out Of Mind”)\, Ruth Brown\, Johnny Adams\, Pinetop Perkins\, Snooky Pryor\, Al Copley\, Todd Sharpville and Tony Z\, and touring with Tom Waits in 2006. \nDuke’s resume is decorated with Grammy nominations\, Handy Awards and Blues Music Awards\, and other honors for his artistry\, recordings and productions within the United States and internationally. On his latest release\, “Duke Robillard and his Dames of Rhythm” on M.C. Records\, he wields an acoustic archtop and joins six thrushes for evocative and enjoyable renditions of 1920s and 1930s swing tunes; it’s a worthy successor to his 2016 BMA-winning “The Acoustic Blues And Roots Of Duke Robillard.” \nDuke remains based in Rhode Island and a whirlwind as a musician\, producer\, gardener and photographer. But wait\, there’s more: he’s now creating fine art abstract paintings\, too! At this point for Duke\, versatility and mastery should come as anything but a surprise; it just means more richness in a superlative career for us to celebrate. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Soggy Po Boys - Album Release
DESCRIPTION:$15/Member \n$18/Non-Member \n  \nSoggy Po Boys return for an epic Album Release Tour! \n  \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThis fall\, New Orleans jazz exponents The Soggy Po Boys will celebrate the release of their 6th\nfull-length album\, Leave the Light On\, in a series of not-to-be-missed release shows around the\nNortheast.\nThe Po Boys formed in 2012 to shake the walls of a local club on a Fat Tuesday but have honed\ntheir sound and become more than a Mardi Gras centerpiece. Exploring the vast musical\ntraditions of New Orleans and expanding their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz\, the band\nperforms traditional Caribbean tunes (it’s been said that New Orleans is the northernmost city in\nthe Caribbean)\, as well as Meters funk\, soul\, and brass band / street beat music.\nThe latest record captures the 7-piece band’s mission of embracing tradition without becoming a\nmuseum piece. By blending traditional and original songs\, the album embraces themes of joy\,\nfrustration\, loneliness\, love\, and sadness\, and explores these feelings with the group’s trademark\nhumorous sincerity.\nLeave the Light On was recorded at Acadia Recording Company in Portland\, Maine where it was\ntracked by Jason Phelps. Phelps helped to sculpt the sounds and provided a perfect environment\nto capture the essence of what the band loves most: playing live. The result is music that is very\nmuch grounded in the sonic liminal space that the Po Boys occupy best–happy-ish\, live-ish\,\nnew-ish\, and bull-ish.\n“These guys have done their homework\, worked it out on the bandstand and put in the hours in\nthe studio. It all adds up to a party you can bring with you when you want to treat your friends to\na real good time.” -Ben Schenck of New Orleans’ Panorama Jazz Band\n“There’s no retro to their sound\, no putting on airs\, this is living music respectful of the source\,\nplayed by consummate professionals.” -Syncopated Times \n  \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Tom Rush
DESCRIPTION:$50 / All Tickets \n*Membership Comps are NOT applicable to this event \n  \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \nTom Rush is a gifted musician and performer\, whose shows offer a musical celebration…a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been\, can be\, and will become. His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor and warm\, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues \nRush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s\, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes\, but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor\, and in more recent years his Club 47 concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nTom Rush began his musical career in the early ’60s playing the Boston-area clubs while a Harvard student. The Club 47 was the flagship of the coffee house fleet\, and he was soon holding down a weekly spot there\, learning from the legendary artists who came to play\, honing his skills and growing into his talent. He had released two albums by the time he graduated. \nRush displayed then\, as he does today\, an uncanny knack for finding wonderful songs\, and writing his own – many of which have become classics re-interpreted by new generations.\n(It is testimony to the universality of his appeal that his songs have been folk hits\, country hits\, heavy metal and rap hits.) Signed by Elektra in 1965\, Rush made three albums for them\, culminating in The Circle Game\, which\, according to Rolling Stone\, ushered in the singer/songwriter era. \nIn the early ’70s\, folk turned to folk-rock\, and Rush\, ever adaptable\, saw more room to stretch out. Recording now for Columbia\, he toured tirelessly with a five man band\, playing concerts across the country. Endless promotional tours\, interviews\, television appearances\, and recording sessions added up to five very successful but exhausting years\, after which Tom decided to take a break and “recharge” his creative side at his New Hampshire farm. \nRush returned with a splash in 1981\, selling out Boston’s prestigious Symphony Hall in advance. Time off had not only rekindled Rush’s love of music\, it had re-ignited music audiences’ love of Rush. \nHe instinctively knew that his listeners were interested in both the old and the new\, and set out to create a musical forum like the Club 47 of the early sixties to allow artists and newcomers to share the same stage. In 1982\, he tried it out at Symphony Hall. The show was such a hit it became an annual event\, growing to fill two\, then three nights\, and the Club 47 series was born. Crafting concerts that combined well known artists such as Bonnie Raitt or Emmylou Harris with (then) unknowns like Alison Krauss or Mark O’ Connor\, Rush took the show on the road. From the ’80s to the present day\, Club 47 events have filled the nation’s finest halls to rave reviews\, and have been broadcast as national specials on PBS and NPR. \nIn 1999\, Columbia/Legacy released a Tom Rush retrospective album that covers his recorded musical history from 1962 to the present\, including tracks recorded for Columbia\, Elektra\, Prestige and his independent years. Entitled “The Very Best of Tom Rush: No Regrets”\, the 17-track compilation includes as a bonus a brand new Tom Rush composition\, “River Song\,” which features vocal contributions from Grammy winners Shawn Colvin and Marc Cohn. \nA live CD\, “Trolling for Owls” released in 2003 and published by Tom’s NIGHTLIGHT RECORDINGS\, captures Tom’s complete performance and includes\, for the first time\, some of the spoken stories that have endeared him to audiences. \n“How I Play (some of) My Favorite Songs”\, a DVD released in 2005 by Homespun Tapes. It shows how he plays ten of the memorable songs and guitar arrangements that have long made him one of America’s most beloved performers. \nIn 2009\, Tom recorded his first studio CD in 35 years. Recorded in Nashville\, “What I Know” was produced by Tom’s long-time friend Jim Rooney and includes original Tom Rush material\, as well as harmonies by Emmylou Harris\, Bonnie Bramlett and Nanci Griffith. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in New Hampshire when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic with training\, and his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. He’s doing what he loves\, and what audiences love him for: writing and playing …passionately\, tenderly…knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times  \n  \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Hayley Reardon
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts Presents Hayley Reardon\n$18\n*This event qualifies for all p/p member discounts \nThe first in our Singer/Songwriter Series\, Hayley returns to the Arakelian Stage for an intimate evening of music. \nPurchase Tickets\n\nHayley Reardon is a critically acclaimed folk-pop singer and songwriter\, and a storyteller in the truest sense of the word. Raised in a coastal Massachusetts town north of Boston\, Reardon dove head first into music at the young age of 15\, and has dedicated nearly half of her life to writing\, recording and performing music around the world. The artist’s songs have been featured on multiple Spotify editorial playlists and Apple Music playlists\, with over 7 million streams on Apple Music alone. She has shared the stage with renowned artists including Lori McKenna\, Rodney Crowell and Anaïs Mitchell\, among others.  \nReardon’s creative journey thus far has been distinctly international. Carrying her songs and stories all over the globe\, she has performed hundreds upon hundreds of shows in over 13 countries – gathering experiences\, inspiration and soulful connections. Reardon’s travels include a six-month artist-in-residency stay in Dachau\, Germany in 2021. Her ever-deepening music carries a lyrical and melodic weight beyond her years\, being described as “brilliantly moving folk/pop with a lyrical depth and soul” (Performer Magazine) and “a melancholy little masterpiece” (American Songwriter Magazine). No Depression writes “Reardon is truly a treasure.”  \nThe past year has been one of artistic abundance and growth for Reardon. Her EP\, Changes\, which was recorded in Barcelona with renowned Spanish guitarist Pau Figueres as producer and collaborator\, released in July 2023. The title track features an original bilingual duet with Catalan sensation Judit Neddermann\, with whom Reardon formed a deep musical bond during her time in Spain and who appears on the EP courtesy of Universal Music Spain. Along with her own releases\, Reardon co-wrote and sings on Seth Glier’s haunting new single My Body Remembers. She was also nominated as 2023 Vocalist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards.  \nAt the start of 2024\, Reardon released her first live concert album\, “Live at Starseed Studios”. The project features 13 tracks from Reardon’s songbook with special acoustic arrangements by Pau Figueres on flamenco guitar and Arnau Figueres on bass. Reardon also recently returned to Spain to record new music with the Figueres brothers at The Sound of Wood studio near Barcelona. According to Reardon\, her upcoming seven-song project\, to be released in August 2024\, takes a more organic approach with vocals and instrumentation tracked live with a five-piece band. Her extensive travels\, recent move back to the States\, and regrounding in a place close to her roots has given the songwriter much to contemplate. In “The Way I Am”\, an upcoming single from the project\, Reardon reflects\, “I needed all this space just to feel the ache that has always been under everything.” These new songs explore uncharted emotional depths for an artist who is already known for her capacity to access tenderness. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Steve Forbert
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents the first in our 2025 Folk/Americana Series\,  Steve Forbert! \nPurchase Tickets\n\n$30 / Non-Members \n$27 / Members \n*Firehouse p/p event \n  \nSteve Forbert is a true American treasure\, a fact underscored by his 21st album\, Daylight Savings Time. Like all his albums of original songs\, it’s suffused with what venerated rock journalist Robert Christgau discerned as his “omnivorously observant” songwriting\, marked by Steve’s gift for finding the deeper meaning and magic within the spectrum of everyday moments\, as well as his abundant melodic and poetic enchantment. \nAs Forbert approaches the milestone of his 70th birthday\, Daylight Savings Time contemplates and celebrates the proverbial ‘extra hour of daylight’ that comes with the time change. “Yeah to chirping crickets and to daylight savings time!” he sings on the album’s first single “Sound Existence\,” “The best ain’t yet to come\, but you could still get by just fine.” \nSteve arrived in New York City from his Meridian\, Mississippi hometown in 1976. He slotted seamlessly into the “new folk” revival in such Manhattan clubs as Folk City\, The Bitter End\, and Kenny’s Castaways while taking the stage at CBGB\, ground zero of the burgeoning new wave/punk movement. He also busked on the streets of Greenwich Village and in the elegant confines of Grand Central Station. \nHe quickly won a major label deal with Nemperor/CBS Records and released his heralded debut\, Alive on Arrival\, in 1978. His next album\, Jackrabbit Slim\, released in 1979\, brought wider renown to Forbert with its #11 pop chart hit “Romeo’s Tune.” It provided the stature for his troubadour existence\, which has kept him active ever since as “a striking performer\, very much worth seeing and hearing\,” according to the New York Times.  \n  \nMembers Early Access – Wednesday\, December 11 \nPublic Ticket Access – Friday\, December 13 \n  \nPurchase Tickets
