SUMMARY:Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nStanley Jordan plays Jimi\nTickets starting at $37 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nWorld-renowned guitarist Stanley Jordan has developed a new live show called “Stanley Plays Jimi.” This is a tribute show\, but it’s not pure imitation. Instead Stanley builds on Jimi’s legacy in a creative way. As Stanley explains it\, “This is my fantasy Jimi Hendrix concert if Jimi were still alive and playing today. By re-imagining his music and channeling his persona I try to bring that fantasy to life.” It may be surprising that Stanley Jordan would take on a project like this. After all\, Stanley is already a well-known guitarist with a signature style\, four Grammy nominations\, a cameo in a Blake Edwards film (Blind Date)\, and a host of TV appearances over a long career including Jimmy Fallon\, David Letterman\, Jay Leno and Johnny Carson to name a few.  Stanley also adds a few original compositions to the setlist- fantasy songs that could have been written by Jimi today\, just to fill out the repertoire and to give shape to some of the new concepts Jimi was developing. This is the Hendrix of today\, not yesterday.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Tom Rush
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nAn Evening with Tom Rush\n  \nAll Tickets | $55 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nTom Rush is a gifted musician and performer\, whose shows offer a musical celebration…a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been\, can be\, and will become. His distinctive guitar style\, wry humor and warm\, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling\, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues \nRush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s\, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes\, but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor\, and in more recent years his Club 47 concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nTom Rush began his musical career in the early ’60s playing the Boston-area clubs while a Harvard student. The Club 47 was the flagship of the coffee house fleet\, and he was soon holding down a weekly spot there\, learning from the legendary artists who came to play\, honing his skills and growing into his talent. He had released two albums by the time he graduated. \nRush displayed then\, as he does today\, an uncanny knack for finding wonderful songs\, and writing his own – many of which have become classics re-interpreted by new generations.\n(It is testimony to the universality of his appeal that his songs have been folk hits\, country hits\, heavy metal and rap hits.) Signed by Elektra in 1965\, Rush made three albums for them\, culminating in The Circle Game\, which\, according to Rolling Stone\, ushered in the singer/songwriter era. \nIn the early ’70s\, folk turned to folk-rock\, and Rush\, ever adaptable\, saw more room to stretch out. Recording now for Columbia\, he toured tirelessly with a five man band\, playing concerts across the country. Endless promotional tours\, interviews\, television appearances\, and recording sessions added up to five very successful but exhausting years\, after which Tom decided to take a break and “recharge” his creative side at his New Hampshire farm. \nRush returned with a splash in 1981\, selling out Boston’s prestigious Symphony Hall in advance. Time off had not only rekindled Rush’s love of music\, it had re-ignited music audiences’ love of Rush. \nHe instinctively knew that his listeners were interested in both the old and the new\, and set out to create a musical forum like the Club 47 of the early sixties to allow artists and newcomers to share the same stage. In 1982\, he tried it out at Symphony Hall. The show was such a hit it became an annual event\, growing to fill two\, then three nights\, and the Club 47 series was born. Crafting concerts that combined well known artists such as Bonnie Raitt or Emmylou Harris with (then) unknowns like Alison Krauss or Mark O’ Connor\, Rush took the show on the road. From the ’80s to the present day\, Club 47 events have filled the nation’s finest halls to rave reviews\, and have been broadcast as national specials on PBS and NPR. \nIn 1999\, Columbia/Legacy released a Tom Rush retrospective album that covers his recorded musical history from 1962 to the present\, including tracks recorded for Columbia\, Elektra\, Prestige and his independent years. Entitled “The Very Best of Tom Rush: No Regrets”\, the 17-track compilation includes as a bonus a brand new Tom Rush composition\, “River Song\,” which features vocal contributions from Grammy winners Shawn Colvin and Marc Cohn. \nA live CD\, “Trolling for Owls” released in 2003 and published by Tom’s NIGHTLIGHT RECORDINGS\, captures Tom’s complete performance and includes\, for the first time\, some of the spoken stories that have endeared him to audiences. \n“How I Play (some of) My Favorite Songs”\, a DVD released in 2005 by Homespun Tapes. It shows how he plays ten of the memorable songs and guitar arrangements that have long made him one of America’s most beloved performers. \nIn 2009\, Tom recorded his first studio CD in 35 years. Recorded in Nashville\, “What I Know” was produced by Tom’s long-time friend Jim Rooney and includes original Tom Rush material\, as well as harmonies by Emmylou Harris\, Bonnie Bramlett and Nanci Griffith. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in New Hampshire when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic with training\, and his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. He’s doing what he loves\, and what audiences love him for: writing and playing …passionately\, tenderly…knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times  \n  \n \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Alisa Amador
DESCRIPTION:‘The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nAlisa Amador\nTickets starting at $27 \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \nPraised by NPR’s Bob Boilen as a “powerful voice whose tender performance commands attention and fosters connection\,” Alisa Amador made history in 2022 with the first-ever Spanish language song to win the prestigious Tiny Desk Contest. Now\, the bilingual singer/songwriter is formally introducing herself with her stunning full-length debut\, Multitudes. Recorded with co-producers Tyler Chester and Daniel Radin\, the album is a bold\, captivating self-portrait\, one that serves not only as a testament to how far Amador has come (she’s earned dates with everyone from Hozier and Brandi Carlile to Lake Street Dive and Maggie Rogers) but also as a celebration of where she comes from (her roots span Puerto Rico\, New Mexico\, Argentina\, and New England). Slipping effortlessly between Spanish and English and featuring appearances from Gaby Moreno\, Madison Cunningham\, and Quinn Christopherson\, the collection is raw and vulnerable\, at once steeped in devastating loss and uncertainty\, but also laced with the hope and resilience of a young woman learning to find her voice and stand her ground. Certainly\, Multitudes is a beautiful record—the way Amador’s crystalline voice cuts through the album’s lush synthesizers\, dreamy guitars\, and cinematic string arrangements is nothing short of spellbinding—but more than that\, it’s a fierce work of discovery and affirmation\, a profound\, revelatory meditation on triumph and loss\, endings and beginnings\, identity and belonging. \n  \n \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Bailey's Mistake
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nBailey’s Mistake\nTickets starting at $20 \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \nBailey’s Mistake is a Celtic-American\, four-piece folk band from Maine. The group mixes traditional music from Ireland\, Scotland and Newfoundland with brand new songs about contemporary life in New England. Bailey’s Mistake’s pulsing sound is driven by bass\, drums and guitar and topped off with hearty vocal harmonies and thrilling bagpipe and whistle tunes. Bailey’s Mistake is made up of four seasoned musicians who all went to the same rural high school in Maine — aptly named Bonny Eagle. Collectively\, they have about 110 years of touring musical experience. Troy R. Bennett plays guitar\, sings soulful lead and pens most of the band’s original songs. Travis Cote learned to play the bagpipes at 10 and thrills audiences with his rhythmic\, majestic sound. Dean Clegg is the band’s inventive percussionist and oversees all technical aspects of every show. Rob Babson plays bass\, sings delicate harmonies and is the band’s musical leader. The band takes its name from a legend told for generations along the Maine coast. In the 19th century\, there was a certain ship captain named Bailey. He was trying to guide his vessel safely around West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and into Lubec Harbor. Unfortunately\, it was a foggy night and he missed. Instead of safe harbor\, Bailey ran aground in a shallow\, rocky inlet just south of the lighthouse. What’s more\, rather than face the ship’s furious owners in Boston\, Bailey and his crew unloaded their load of lumber\, dismantled their vessel\, built houses in the cove and settled down with several local ladies. To this day\, on most good maps\, that little harbor is simply labeled “Bailey’s Mistake.” \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nPurchase Tickets\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Roomful of Blues
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nRoomful of Blues\nTickets starting at $30 \nPurchase Tickets\n\n“Brawny shuffles\, swinging horns\, searing guitar\, passionate vocals and balls-to-the-wall enthusiasm” –Living Blues \n“High-voltage swingin’ jump blues and R&B” –USA Today \n“Jubilant\, jazzy R&B…boisterous\, horn-propelled magnificence…infectiously joyous spirit” –Blues Music Magazine \nRoomful of Blues\, the world-renowned\, horn-powered\, houserocking blues band\, has been delighting audiences for over 55 years. Blues Music Magazine calls them “the best little big band in the blues.” On record and on stage\, Roomful of Blues—led by master guitarist Chris Vachon for the past 25 years—continues to deliver its bone-shaking mix of original songs and carefully chosen covers ranging from jump\, swing and proto rock ‘n’ roll to funky\, contemporary blues. Their impeccable musicianship and larger-than-life vocals have earned Roomful of Blues five GRAMMY Award nominations and a slew of other accolades\, including seven Blues Music Awards. Twice\, the prestigious DownBeat International Critics’ Poll has selected them as Best Blues Band. \nWith a non-stop performance schedule for over 55 years\, Roomful of Blues has earned critical\, popular and radio success and a legion of fans around the globe. Roomful of Blues guitarist and bandleader Chris Vachon first joined in 1990 and has been leading the band since 1998. Guitar Player says Vachon’s guitar playing “burns with explosive solos and a delightfully greasy sense of rhythm.” The band has maintained its signature sound through great musicianship and a stellar horn section—featuring tenor and alto saxophonist Rich Lataille\, who first joined the band in 1970. Lataille’s masterful playing can evoke either the fat-toned\, honking sax of the glory days of early rock or the cool elegance of big band swing jazz. \nAlong with Vachon and Lataille\, Roomful of Blues now includes new lead vocalist D.D. Bastos\, new keyboardist Jeff Ceasrine\, baritone and tenor saxophonist Craig Thomas\, trumpeter Christopher Pratt\, bassist Lou Bocciarelli and drummer Mike Coffey. The band has never sounded fresher or stronger\, with Bastos bringing her sweet and soulful vocals and adding another bright new dimension to Roomful of Blues’ jazzy\, jump-blues musical roots. Their winning combination of jump\, swing\, blues\, R&B and soul remains their calling card\, as does their ability to fill the dance floor. \n \nD.D. Bastos – Vocals: \nD.D. is no stranger to the stage\, and music has always been her passion. She began singing in church at the age of 5. She earned second chair in the All-Eastern Honors Ensemble representing Massachusetts which garnered her a college scholarship. After college\, D.D. began performing with local groups throughout New England\, which led to the inception of her band\, D.D. & The Road Kings. Her work brought her into the fraternity that included Roomful of Blues\, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones\, The Broadcasters and the dozens of splinter groups who have branched off — shaping many other New England blues bands. D.D. is also a Choral Director in the New Bedford\, MA public school system\, with over 20 years as a private music teacher. Her love of singing is what fuels her soulful and powerful performances. \nChris Vachon – Guitar: \nChris is a true multi-talent. His prowess as a guitar slinger is well documented\, and his strengths as a producer and songwriter grow from album to album. He produced Roomful Of Blues’ nine most recent albums\, after co-producing all of Roomful’s other releases recorded in the 1990s. Chris’s songs— such as Turn It On! Turn It Up!\, Running Out of Time She’ll Be So Fine\, Blue\, Blue World\, Dynamite and Keep on Rockin’ have become firm favorites in AAA and blues radio formats\, bringing many new fans into the Roomful fold. \nLou Bocciarelli\,- Bassist \nLou is known for his swinging bass lines and deep groove. A versatile musician\, he enjoys performing in multiple genres including jazz\, blues\, swing\, trad jazz\, country\, and original singer-songwriter projects. A Connecticut resident\, Lou is a longtime member of the Al Copley Group\, the Hartford Jazz Orchestra\, and the Sean Nelson Jazz Orchestra. Lou has appeared on numerous recordings and performs regularly throughout New England\, along with tours in Europe. \nJeff Ceasrine – Piano/Organ: \nOriginally from New York\, Jeff is a multi-instrumentalist who has performed throughout the New England area on keyboards\, rhythm guitar\, percussion\, and background vocals for over 25 years. He has worked with several long-standing blues\, jazz and swing acts in Rhode Island and has played many gigs with various bands throughout the region. A frequent guest and on-call keyboard player with Roomful of Blues since 2008 (appearing on their recent In a Roomful of Blues album)\, Jeff is a master of many different blues stylings. His influences include Pinetop Perkins\, Duke Ellington\, Fats Waller\, Lonnie Smith\, Otis Spann and Jimmy Smith. \nMike Coffey – Drums: \nFrom Newport\, Rhode Island\, Mike Coffey has spent 20 years performing with the US Navy band. Upon retirement\, he played with local blues artist Chris Stoval Brown and other well-known musicians in the Boston area. As part of a weekly jazz series\, he has performed with Mike Renzi and Grey Sargent — both members of Tony Bennett’s band — as well as other renowned jazz artists\, and has studied with famed drum instructors Alan Dawson and Gary Chaffee. He also performs with the 1950s doo-wop group\, The Diamonds\, when they play in New England. Known for his versatility and ability toenhance any group he performs with\, Coffey has become a welcome new member of Roomful of Blues. \nRich Lataille – Tenor and Alto Sax: \nRich joined Roomful in 1970 and was there at the beginning of what has become the most legendary horn section in contemporary blues. It was Rich’s interest in the swinging bands of the ’30s and ’40s that led Roomful to forge the distinctive sound that has become the band’s trademark. A man who can play both sides of the fence — lyrically tender or blisteringly hot – Rich has a big\, warm tone that is always jam-packed with feeling. His melodic inventiveness reflects the depth and breadth of his wide-ranging influences. Rich worked with various local and high-school bands before beginning his long-term relationship with Roomful. \nCraig Thomas – Baritone and Tenor Sax: \nCraig was born in Washington\, DC and grew up in Maryland. At a young age Craig heard an early rock ‘n’ roll instrumental\, Wild Weekend\, by the Rockin’ Rebels. This inspired him to take up the saxophone. He moved to LA in his early 20s and played with the likes of Jim Messina of Loggins & Messina\, Les McCann\, Aretha Franklin\, the Stylistics\, Freda Payne\, Jermaine Jackson\, and the R&B Bombers\, among many others. “Craig’s rich musical background is a welcome asset to the Roomful of Blues horn section\,” notes Vachon. \nChristopher Pratt – Trumpet: \nChris is a native of Rhode Island and has performed throughout the New England area with various local and national acts for over forty years. Chris recently retired as a music teacher of 37 years from Warwick\, Rhode Island and continues to actively teach music at Roger Williams University. Chris’s pure melodic style\, infectious energy\, and love of the blues can be heard every time Roomful of Blues takes the stage. \nPurchase Tickets
