SUMMARY:Mark Erelli
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts Presents… \nMark Erelli\n$30 / All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\nDuring a performance in summer 2020\, Mark Erelli looked down at his guitar neck and couldn’t believe what he saw. Or rather\, what he couldn’t see: his fingers on the frets. Soon after\, a diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa (RP)\, a degenerative eye disease\, would bring some answers\, but it also yielded new questions. Does diminished eyesight correlate with lesser insight? Does your songwriting change when your perception of the world around you changes? These questions\, and Erelli’s hunt for creative agency\, are at the heart of his new album Lay Your Darkness Down (due Feb 3 on Soundly Music).  \nMark Erelli reminds us to push forward through the fog; because we can’t see a path ahead\, doesn’t mean we won’t get to the destination we’re in search of. Such as he sings on “Fuel for the Fire\,” “You can’t live in fear / But you can use it as fuel for the fire.”

SUMMARY:Ellis Paul
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nEllis Paul\n$35 | All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\nEllis Paul is a Maine-made singer-songwriter inspired by greats like Woodie Guthrie\, Joni Mitchell  and Bob Dylan. \nEllis Paul doesn’t just write songs; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition  and details the hopes\, loves\, losses of those he observes\, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless.  \nHis songs have appeared in several blockbuster films (Me\, Myself\, and Irene; Shallow Hal\, Hall Pass) and have been covered by award winning country artists (Sugarland\, Kristian Bush\, Jack Ingram). Through a steady succession of albums of his own – a remarkable 23 releases so far – and a constant touring presence around the world\, Paul’s audience has grown into a loyal legion of fans. Along the way\, he has picked up an impressive number of awards including the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award\, 15 Boston Music Awards\, An Honorary Doctorate from the University of Maine\, the 2019 International Acoustic Music Awards Artist of the Year and most recently his album\, The Storyteller’s Suitcase\, was named the 2019 NERFA Album of the Year.  \nHis new album “55” touches on the necessity of gratitude in a difficult era of the pandemic and divided political stances on his own imprint\, Rosella Records.  \nCheck out Ellis’ work further on his website\, www.ellispaul.com

SUMMARY:Tinsley Ellis
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nTinsley Ellis\n$35 | All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\n“An exciting\, emotional guitarist and a strong\, evocative songwriter…One of modern blues’ greatest performers.”  –Vintage Guitar \nAccording to Atlanta-based blues guitarist\, singer and songwriter Tinsley Ellis\, his new\, first-ever solo acoustic album\, Naked Truth\, is both “a departure and an arrival.” Ellis has been recording and travelling the world for over four decades\, delivering his feral\, guitar-fueled\, original electric blues-rock to ever-growing audiences at concert halls\, festivals\, and clubs. Naked Truth is steeped in the folk blues traditions of Muddy Waters\, Skip James\, Son House\, Robert Johnson and even Leo Kottke. \nOn the Naked Truth tour\, Ellis will bring his music directly to his fans. “Two guitars and a car\,” he says of the simplicity of his North American touring situation. “When folks come to see me\, I’ll have the guitars I used on the record with me\, so what fans hear on the album is what they’ll get live. It’s not easy. Now I’m the whole band and there’s nowhere to hide. It’s scary every single time I go up on stage alone. But nothing could be more honest.”

SUMMARY:Patty Larkin
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nPatty Larkin\n$35 | All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\nPATTY LARKIN is a visionary of sound and wonder\, a real deal version of artistry made of equal parts guitar wizardry\, vocals shot through with soul and inventive lyrics that ripple across the terrain of the heart. Described as “riveting” (Chicago Tribune)\, “hypnotic” (Entertainment Weekly)\, and a “drop-dead brilliant” performer (Performing Songwriter)\, Patty has captured audiences for over 30 years with an imagination\, enchantment\, and technical artistry that has redefined the boundaries of the guitar driven singer songwriter. \nWith eleven studio albums and two live recordings under her belt\, Patty mines the intersections of poetry and song with her innovative 14th release\, Bird in a Cage\, released on her own Road Narrows Records. Bird in a Cage puts poems from ten notable poets to song\, including US Poet Laureates William Carlos Williams\, Stanley Kunitz\, Kay Ryan\, Robert Pinsky and Billy Collins\, for a new and haunting collection that pulses with the magic of lyricism. Poems are made to be shared aloud\, and with Bird\, Patty takes up that tradition and sets it aglow: her extraordinary musical shadings make each poem a star.

SUMMARY:Bell Bottom Blues
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nBell Bottom Blues\nTickets starting at $43 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nThe Bell Bottom Blues was formed in 2007 with the vision of providing an audience with a true Eric Clapton Experience. Through its evolution\, the band has been carefully constructed to create the essence of the Clapton sound\, from his guitar arrangements to his distinctive vocal sound. This is what separates The Bell Bottom Blues from all others and makes us unique in the market. We have been told time and time again by our audiences and fans that “they close their eyes during a show and could swear that they were actually at a Clapton concert”. This is what we actually set out to achieve. Through each band member’s dedication\, professionalism\, and hard work\, we have captured the sound and essence of the master himself through his various stages\, from Cream\, the Dominoes\, and through his entire solo career. Our EC has captured his guitar styling and\, more importantly\, his exact vocal sound\, which allows us to truly pay tribute to this rock and blues icon. \nBand Page

SUMMARY:The Jacob Jolliff Band
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nThe Jacob Jolliff Band\nTickets start at $25 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nJacob Jolliff was born into a musical family in Newberg\, OR. His dad started him on the mandolin at age seven and required him to practice ten minutes a day. But after six months of practicing this minimal amount\, something clicked\, and almost overnight he started putting in several hours of intense practice daily. And this hasn’t really changed in the last 20 years. Now in 2023\, the mandolinist’s main focus is The Jacob Jolliff Band\, which is regarded as  one of the most cutting-edge progressive bluegrass groups on the scene today. This ensemble is a group of virtuosic pickers that play Jacob’s original instrumentals\, as well as showcase his singing. They tour nationally in the US and have also travelled to Scotland and Australia to perform. The group has released two albums\, “Instrumentals Vol. 1” in 2018 and “The Jacob Jolliff Band” in 2022.

SUMMARY:Eilen Jewell
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nEilen Jewell\n$33 | All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\nHailed as “one of America’s most intriguing\, creative\, and idiosyncratic voices” by American Songwriter\, Jewell built her career the old fashioned way\, touring relentlessly with the kind of undeniable live show that converts the uninitiated into instant acolytes. Over the course of nearly two decades on the road\, the Idaho native has crisscrossed the US\, Europe\, and Australia countless times\, playing an endless series of headline and festival dates in addition to sharing bills with the likes of Lucinda Williams\, Loretta Lynn\, Mavis Staples\, Wanda Jackson\, George Jones\, Emmylou Harris\, and The Blind Boys of Alabama. Rolling Stone lauded Jewell’s “clever writing\,” while NPR declared that she has a “sweet and clear voice with a killer instinct lurking beneath the shiny surface\,” and The Washington Post mused that “if Neko Case\, Madeleine Peyroux and Billie Holiday had a baby girl who grew up to front a rockabilly band\, she’d probably sound a lot like Eilen Jewell.” \nWith Get Behind The Wheel\, her ninth studio album\, Jewell plants herself firmly in the driver’s seat as she picks up the pieces and finds new purpose and meaning in the process. Co-produced by multi-instrumental wizard Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider\, Hayes Carll)\, the collection pushes Jewell’s trademark blend of vintage roots-noir into more psychedelic territory\, with spacious\, cinematic arrangements complementing her revelatory explorations of grief\, loss\, resilience\, and redemption. The band’s performances are truly electrifying here\, blending elements of early rock and rockabilly with old school country and soul\, and Jewell’s delivery is timeless to match\, her voice effortlessly moving from unguarded intimacy to icy cool and back\, sometimes within the very same song. The result is Jewell’s boldest album yet\, a powerful work of artistic alchemy that transforms heartache into genuine creative rebirth.

SUMMARY:Peter Mulvey
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nPeter Mulvey\nTickets starting at $25 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nMulvey is an iconoclast within the singer/songwriter world. Restless and inventive\, his seventeen records span rock and roll\, folk\, Jazz\, spoken word\, and Americana. Peter Mulvey has been a songwriter\, road-dog\, raconteur and almost-poet since before he can remember. Raised working-class Catholic on the Northwest side of Milwaukee\, he took a semester in Ireland\, and immediately began cutting classes to busk on Grafton Street in Dublin and hitchhike through the country\, finding whatever gigs he could. Back stateside\, he spent a couple years gigging in the Midwest before lighting out for Boston\, where he returned to busking (this time in the subway) and coffeehouses. Small shows led to larger shows\, which eventually led to regional and then national and international touring. The wheels have not stopped since. \nNineteen records\, an illustrated book\, thousands of live performances\, a TEDx talk\, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp\, opening for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco\, Emmylou Harris\, and Chuck Prophet\, appearances on NPR\, an annual autumn tour by bicycle\, emceeing festivals\, hosting his own boutique festival (the Lamplighter Sessions\, in Boston and Wisconsin)… Mulvey never stops. He has built his life’s work on collaboration and an instinct for the eclectic and the vital. He folds everything he encounters into his work: poetry\, social justice\, scientific literacy\, & a deeply abiding humanism are all on plain display in his art. \n \n

SUMMARY:Shemekia Copeland
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nShemekia Copeland\nTickets starting at $45 \nPurchase Tickets\n\n“Shemekia Copeland is the greatest blues singer of her generation.” -The Washington Post \nAward-winning blues\, soul and Americana singer Shemekia Copeland possesses one of the most instantly recognizable and deeply soulful roots music voices of our time. She is beloved worldwide for the fearlessness\, honesty and humor of her revelatory music\, as well as for delivering each song she performs with unmatched passion. Copeland — winner of the 2021 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year— connects with her audience on an intensely personal level\, taking them with her on what The Wall Street Journal calls “a consequential ride” of “bold and timely blues.” \nOn her new Alligator album\, Done Come Too Far\, Copeland continues the story she began telling on 2018’s groundbreaking America’s Child and 2020’s Grammy-nominated Uncivil War\, reflecting her vision of America’s past\, present and future. On Done Come Too Far\, she delivers her hard-hitting musical truths through her eyes\, those of a young American Black woman\, a mother\, and a wife. But she likes to have a good time too\, and her music reflects that\, at times putting her sly sense of humor front and center. “This album was made by all sides of me — happy\, sad\, silly\, irate — they’re all a part who I am and who we all are. I’m not political. I’m just talking about what’s happening in this country.”

SUMMARY:Suzy Bogguss
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts.. \nSuzy Bogguss\nTickets starting at $65 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nDuring the creative explosion of country music in the 1990s Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with radio hits like “Outbound Plane”\, “Someday Soon”\, and “Hey Cinderella.” Her latest offering\, Prayin’ For Sunshine\, is an Americana tour de force. \nShe’s a living legend of country music\, having earned eight Top 10 hits throughout the 1990s before exploring new influences — including jazz\, western swing\, and the Bakersfield sound — during the 21st century. From Grammy Award-winning performances to platinum-selling records\, Suzy has proudly called her own shots for four decades\, earning her stripes as a singer-songwriter\, producer\, and road warrior along the way. \nRecorded at Suzy’s home\, her newest\, self-written album Prayin’ for Sunshine offers a mix of southern storytelling\, gorgeous vocals\, and organic instrumentation that showcases her country and Americana roots. It’s an eclectic and emotional project\, with Suzy’s sharp songwriting balanced by spontaneous performances from the band. Highlights include “Paint the Town Blue” (a lovely\, loping tribute to life in a small town\, inspired by her hometown of Aledo\, Illinois)\, “Sunday Birmingham” (a road song that finds Suzy on tour\, longing to power down the tour bus and spend more time in the city she just played)\, and “It All Falls Down To The River” (a swampy\, swinging song about the dark side of American history\, with gospel harmonies from the McCrary Sisters). “Some of the songs are ‘windshield songs’ where I’d be looking out the window\, watching as we toured from one place to another\, taking note of what I saw\,” she says\, “and others are more personal songs about my own experience.”

SUMMARY:James Maddock
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts Presents… \nJames Maddock\n$35 / All Tickets \nPurchase Tickets\n\nJames Maddock’s status as a fixture on the Folk and Americana scene is confirmed with every listen of any song in his prodigious catalog. Relix Magazine put it this way: “James Maddock possesses the kind of lived-in craggy voice that would sound authoritative if he were singing the sports pages. Fortunately\, he doesn’t need to do that because his compositional skills are a match for his delivery.”  \nAfter fronting the Columbia Records band Wood\, whose debut Songs From Stamford Hill was featured prominently on TV shows such as “Dawson’s Creek\,” Maddock moved from England to New York City in 2003. His 2009 album Sunrise On Avenue C won a New York Music Award for Best Americana Album\, while the follow-up Wake Up And Dream ranked among the top albums of 2011 in WFUV’s (NYC) Listener Poll. With the release of Another Life (2013) and The Green (2015) Maddock continued to demonstrate why many consider him to be one of the best singer/songwriters working today. He has performed with Bruce Springsteen\, Willie Nile\, Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors) and David Immergluck (Counting Crows). According to radio legend Vin Scelsa\, Maddock’s “heartbreakingly beautiful and exquisitely crafted” music “touches the soul.” As a songwriter\, James recently had three songs co-written with Mike Scott on the new Waterboys album Modern Blues (which appeared in the Top 50 on the UK Albums Chart)\, a co-write with Gary Barlow (“Actress”) on Barlow’s new album (2X Platinum)\, as well as a cut (“Fragile”) on the Dirt On My Tongue album by emerging UK artist Jo Harman. Songs from Another Life have been featured on NBC’s Parenthood and ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. Maddock is a constant live presence in the U.S. and Europe.  \nMaddock’s latest\, Night Work\, re-visits the approach from Maddock’s Songs from Stamford Hill Wood days. Storytelling for Everyman\, and Everywoman. Maddock at his best. In addition to his long-time NYC based band some of the tracks feature former members of Wood. James has two new records in the pipeline for 2025. Watch this space. \n  \n \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi
DESCRIPTION:The Firehouse Center for the Arts presents… \nStanley Jordan plays Jimi\nTickets starting at $37 \nPurchase Tickets\n\nWorld-renowned guitarist Stanley Jordan has developed a new live show called “Stanley Plays Jimi.” This is a tribute show\, but it’s not pure imitation. Instead Stanley builds on Jimi’s legacy in a creative way. As Stanley explains it\, “This is my fantasy Jimi Hendrix concert if Jimi were still alive and playing today. By re-imagining his music and channeling his persona I try to bring that fantasy to life.” It may be surprising that Stanley Jordan would take on a project like this. After all\, Stanley is already a well-known guitarist with a signature style\, four Grammy nominations\, a cameo in a Blake Edwards film (Blind Date)\, and a host of TV appearances over a long career including Jimmy Fallon\, David Letterman\, Jay Leno and Johnny Carson to name a few.  Stanley also adds a few original compositions to the setlist- fantasy songs that could have been written by Jimi today\, just to fill out the repertoire and to give shape to some of the new concepts Jimi was developing. This is the Hendrix of today\, not yesterday.

He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s\, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone\, “Tom was not only one of my early heroes\, but also one of my main influences.” Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell\, Jackson Browne and James Taylor\, and in more recent years his Club 47 concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. \nTom Rush began his musical career in the early ’60s playing the Boston-area clubs while a Harvard student. The Club 47 was the flagship of the coffee house fleet\, and he was soon holding down a weekly spot there\, learning from the legendary artists who came to play\, honing his skills and growing into his talent. He had released two albums by the time he graduated. \nRush displayed then\, as he does today\, an uncanny knack for finding wonderful songs\, and writing his own – many of which have become classics re-interpreted by new generations.\n(It is testimony to the universality of his appeal that his songs have been folk hits\, country hits\, heavy metal and rap hits.) Signed by Elektra in 1965\, Rush made three albums for them\, culminating in The Circle Game\, which\, according to Rolling Stone\, ushered in the singer/songwriter era. \nIn the early ’70s\, folk turned to folk-rock\, and Rush\, ever adaptable\, saw more room to stretch out. Recording now for Columbia\, he toured tirelessly with a five man band\, playing concerts across the country. Endless promotional tours\, interviews\, television appearances\, and recording sessions added up to five very successful but exhausting years\, after which Tom decided to take a break and “recharge” his creative side at his New Hampshire farm. \nRush returned with a splash in 1981\, selling out Boston’s prestigious Symphony Hall in advance. Time off had not only rekindled Rush’s love of music\, it had re-ignited music audiences’ love of Rush. \nHe instinctively knew that his listeners were interested in both the old and the new\, and set out to create a musical forum like the Club 47 of the early sixties to allow artists and newcomers to share the same stage. In 1982\, he tried it out at Symphony Hall. The show was such a hit it became an annual event\, growing to fill two\, then three nights\, and the Club 47 series was born. Crafting concerts that combined well known artists such as Bonnie Raitt or Emmylou Harris with (then) unknowns like Alison Krauss or Mark O’ Connor\, Rush took the show on the road. From the ’80s to the present day\, Club 47 events have filled the nation’s finest halls to rave reviews\, and have been broadcast as national specials on PBS and NPR. \nIn 1999\, Columbia/Legacy released a Tom Rush retrospective album that covers his recorded musical history from 1962 to the present\, including tracks recorded for Columbia\, Elektra\, Prestige and his independent years. Entitled “The Very Best of Tom Rush: No Regrets”\, the 17-track compilation includes as a bonus a brand new Tom Rush composition\, “River Song\,” which features vocal contributions from Grammy winners Shawn Colvin and Marc Cohn. \nA live CD\, “Trolling for Owls” released in 2003 and published by Tom’s NIGHTLIGHT RECORDINGS\, captures Tom’s complete performance and includes\, for the first time\, some of the spoken stories that have endeared him to audiences. \n“How I Play (some of) My Favorite Songs”\, a DVD released in 2005 by Homespun Tapes. It shows how he plays ten of the memorable songs and guitar arrangements that have long made him one of America’s most beloved performers. \nIn 2009\, Tom recorded his first studio CD in 35 years. Recorded in Nashville\, “What I Know” was produced by Tom’s long-time friend Jim Rooney and includes original Tom Rush material\, as well as harmonies by Emmylou Harris\, Bonnie Bramlett and Nanci Griffith. \nToday\, Tom Rush lives in New Hampshire when he’s not touring. His voice has grown even richer and more melodic with training\, and his music\, like a fine wine\, has matured and ripened in the blending of traditional and modern influences. He’s doing what he loves\, and what audiences love him for: writing and playing …passionately\, tenderly…knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times  \n  \n \nPurchase Tickets
