Presented in the traditional British panto style\, this holiday send-up is a family friendly romp through Clara’s adventure with the Nutcracker\, the battle with the Rat King\, and more than likely a Tik Tok dance trend. Holiday Pantos with Theater in the Open are a tradition in Newburyport\, and we are excited to bring back an in-person panto for the first time since December of 2019. Join us! \nAudience members of Theater in the Open’s “A Nutcracker Panto!” are encouraged to bring toiletries\, canned soups\, and other non-perishable items along to the performance; you even get to go up on stage to put them under Clara’s tree for The Pettengill House in Salisbury! \nHere are some suggested “Most Needed” items for the food pantry that are frequently in short supply: \n* Children’s healthy snacks – Some examples include Nutri-bars\, kid’s fruit snacks\, kid’s healthy fruit cups\, granola breakfast bars\, etc. \n* Another category families are always in need of are toiletries\, all the personal care items we take for granted such as toilet paper\, toothpaste\, toothbrushes\, soap\, body wash\, shampoo\, deodorant\, etc. \n*The Pettengill House serves so many families with small children\, diapers are always a big need (especially the larger sizes 4\, 5\, 6 and pull-ups) along with baby wipes.  Some other items include facial tissue\, paper towels\, laundry soap\, dish soap\, plastic utensils\, paper plates\, cups\, can openers. \nPurchase Tickets

DESCRIPTION:$35/non-members\n$30/members \nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\nWhile The Gibson Brothers’ last release\, Mockingbird\, featured gorgeous production\, recreating the sound on stage was difficult. “We put together a band to go out and try to recreate it\,” remembers Eric Gibson. “But we couldn’t. We would have to have such a huge band to try to recreate that record\, but we did the best we could.” \nDarkest Hour producer Jerry Douglas—who has won 14 Grammy awards and backed up everyone from Ray Charles to Paul Simon and George Jones—wanted to make a record The Gibson Brothers could actually play on the road. So\, he picked the best songs out of dozens and squirreled the group away in Sound Emporium’s Studio B. But then the pandemic hit. “We did our last shows in March of 2020\,” Eric says. “We were in Nashville the week everything was shutting down. It was surreal\, but Jerry was like\, ‘Guys\, the world’s going crazy. Let’s let this be our little cocoon.’ And we did. We cut all of the acoustic stuff and then went home and didn’t play any more gigs until things started opening. Then we went back and finished the record with Jerry in February of 2021.” \nThe result is arguably the strongest record The Gibson Brothers have ever made. DESCRIPTION:$15/Adults\n$12/Students \nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\nJoppa Dance Company will be presenting new choreography in a range of styles including Ballet\, Jazz\, Contemporary\, and Modern. The performance also features new student choreography. This skillful\, expressive group of movers will truly inspire. Company choreography is by directors\, Fontaine Dubus\, Jen Steeves\, and Erin Staffiere\, with ballet choreography by Rebecca Maikels. \nJoppa Dance Company\, established 40 years ago by Irene Weiss\, is a noncompetitive youth dance troupe that gives its members the opportunity to perform all over the world. The company is made up of: Joppa Junior-grades 4th-6th; Joppa 2-grades 7th-8th; Joppa T2-grades 9th-10th; Joppa Teen-grades 11th-12th. Dancers learn a wide range of techniques that prepare them for dance majors and careers. Creating their own work is an important element that allows them to grow even more as artists. Touring with Performing Arts Educators\, (PAE)\, Joppa has performed in Scotland\, Spain\, Italy\, Greece\, and in New York City\, (Lincoln Center\, Carnegie Hall).
