In 2019\, The Actors Studio of Newburyport hosted four story slams\, all at the Studio’s black box theatre. Tonight’s Super Story Slam is the year’s finale in which we invite all of our 2019 Full Moon Story Slam winners to tell us one more tale – this time a longer story focused around the theme – Destiny. \nThe Story Slam is our chance to gather friends and share true stories from our lives. Simply put\, a story slam is a competition based on the art of storytelling. It puts a dual emphasis on content and performance\, encouraging storytellers to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. It is an exercise in crafting stories within a set time limit and it is great entertainment! Story slammers sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute short story on the evening’s theme. There are opportunities for one-minute stories too! \nThe three criteria for the judges:\n1.) The story has an arc: a beginning\, a point of change\, and a resolution.\n2.) In addition to her two years with Women in Comedy Festival\, she has appeared at Woodstock Comedy\, Laugh Your Asheville Off\, Boston Comedy Festival\, and the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival (for the opening of the National Comedy Center). She is the first Boston Comedy Chick to win Mohegan Sun’s Last Comix Standing and Slaughter Stand-up Competition. She has traveled extensively and says\, “I have worked at clubs\, colleges\, dead animal lodges\, theatres and corporations\, appearing with many of the top headliners in the business.” Although some comics rely on the monumental events of the day or the faux pas of the rich and famous\, Carolyn prefers to zero in on the humdrum\, day-to-day monotony and foibles of everyman. She sees no reason to gaze in the mirror and complain about not being pretty\, rich or young enough. The third child of a Congregational minister and an “aloof” homemaking mother\, she confesses to being “clueless” and claims her favorite band is “Blootie and the Hoefish.” Whiners\, self-loathers and the generally woebegone need beware. Known for her bubbly personality and contagious energy\, she was named one of the Comedy Studio’s Comics in Residence. In 2015 she opened for Maria Bamford at the historic Wilbur Theatre in Boston. Emily has been profiled in the Boston Globe and the Washington Post and was a finalist in the 2018 Boston Comedy Festival. In addition\, she has performed on Laughs TV on the Fox Network and on the popular Two Dope Queens podcast. Emily reports that Miss Piggy\, Ru Paul and her father have influenced her sense of humor. DESCRIPTION:  \nPurchase Tickets\n\nKnown as the “Bad Boy from Boston\,” Lenny Clarke has been on the comedy scene since the 1980’s\, rising at the same time as other Boston comics\, Steven Wright and Denis Leary. Since catching his first break thanks to Rodney Dangerfield\,\, Lenny has appeared in numerous television series and films\, perhaps most well known as playing Uncle Teddy in Leary’s New York City firefighter drama\, Rescue Me. He’s travelled the world with his stand-up comedy\, but we’re thrilled to have him on our stage for a hometown show.
